When Seraph arrives at Midas' camp with a stranger, Ira welcomes the pair out of a sense of connection and duty, but Midas feels somewhat differently about the situation.

Seraph has, in a sense, been on the run for years - on the run from persecution, on the run from herself. She must prioritize her own wellbeing above all else to survive, and there is no room for compassion when that jeopardizes her life. Finding a curious tree inhabited by two friendly strangers gave her no sense that this could ever change, but what she discovers at the heart of it all shakes her to the core.
