Area of Expertise

Tactics: Shepherd has been hunting monsters since his late teens. He has a wide range of knowledge about how to approach encounters with different types of supernatural creatures. He’s spent years researching monster types and hunting them himself, so there’s not much he doesn’t know when it comes to fighting supernatural creatures. Shepherd’s ability to draw up several plans for a mission, whilst still being able to think quickly on their feet makes them a formidable foe and a great ally.

Weapons: They have a tendency to hoard different types of weapons, and they typically have something for every type of occasion or creature. They’ve trained themselves to be decent at most of them but will also lend them out to hunters he acknowledges and trusts.

Abilities

Sniper: One shot, one kill. Shepherd hates to waste time, doing things the most efficient way. After stalking his prey and finalising their routines, Shepherd sets up their sniper nest, takes aim, and takes out his target without much fuss. It takes a lot of time, care, and precision to set up the shot and his rifle requires reloading after every shot. But Shepherd never misses. It also saves them from having to get too close quarters with a mean creature.

Dual-Pistols: For when Shepherd can’t sit and snipe from a hiding spot, the pistols come out. Quick fire rate with lower accuracy, the pistols are good for fast fights in closer quarters. Still offering some range, Shepherd can unload several bullets into one enemy in a matter of seconds. He has different types of ammunition stocked for the pistols to be effective against different creatures.

Sword and Stakes: Sometimes guns just don’t cut it. Shepherd has been trained in hand-to-hand combat as well as swordsmanship by fellow hunters since he started his career. He can take down an enemy with brute force, stake a vampire, slice the head off a gorgon, etc. While his gunmanship is better, he isn’t shy of getting up close and personal.

Dedicated to the Hunt: Shepherd is an extremely determined hunter. Once he has a target, he endlessly pursues them. He has mountains of experience in tracking down targets, stealthing, and physical combat and is damned good at it. Many supernatural creatures would call Shepherd more of a monster than themselves, a merciless nightmare that only brings death.

Limitations

Just Human: Shepherd is pretty much human. He doesn’t have any super regenerative abilities, super human strength or agility, or magic. Remove all his armor and weapons and he’ll lose a lot of his offensive and defensive capabilities. He’d still put up a fight, but it would be an uphill battle with a monster determined not to be killed.

Sitting Duck (Sniper): When using his sniper, Shepherd is pretty much a sitting duck. He has to hope he’s hidden enough that no enemies can find him while he takes aim. Aiming takes extreme precision and time too, so he has to make his shot count.

Family issues: The trauma from having his family murdered, then having to murder the monsters wearing the faces of his family has… heavily effected Shepherd. He hunts monsters because to Shepherd, they are terrifying. He puts them down quickly because he doesn’t want to risk letting them steal his face or take his soul or suck his blood, or his loved ones for his matter. After a hunt or an encounter with a monster, Shepherd isolates himself and mentally shuts down for a period of time.

Exterminator: Shepherd has a hard time holding back. Sometimes situations call for a calm, non-violent solution. But that isn’t Shepherd’s forte at all. He doesn’t negotiate with monsters and fully accepts he is one. He buries the guilt of murdering supernatural creatures just minding their own business deep down inside of himself and god forbid if it ever raises its ugly head.
