He’s gentle, timid, and an introvert. He's had little socializing outside of his family so is unfamiliar and anxious when interacting with others. He would rather be in the background but often gets dragged into things by his much more extroverted peers, Even if they exhaust him at times, he enjoys being around a group of people who consider him a friend. He has a tendency to overwork himself while trying to improve himself, needs to be monitored so he doesn't overexert himself. He keeps his promises, if you tell him a secret it will stay a secret.

His brother, Yeong-Ho is four years his elder and Mazin has always seen him training since their parents start their kids from the age of five. Suseonhwa was born the year before he started his training. This is a natural part of life for him, so he doesn’t have much issue acclimating when he turns of age to begin training. He was close with his brother and despite the fairly strict regimen their parents placed on them, things felt normal and good.

This changed once Yeong-Ho took his final exam, he came back home having passed, but he confronted his parents about what they were actually preparing them for which he viewed as a death sentence. The argument that ensued left a lot of tension in the household until Yeong-Ho left for good. Mazin, at seven years old, couldn’t fully grasp the complexity of the situation and was left feeling bitter about his brother. When Yeong-Ho left, the burden of being the family slayer was pushed on him harshly as his parents wanted to make sure that their next child was strong enough to face the exam without ‘wimping out’ like Yeong-Ho did.

Harsh training was implemented for Mazin’s routine, there was little room for breaks or free time compared to before. There was no knowing what breathing style he had an aptitude for since he was too young for the blade to change color. He began with stone breathing under his father, but when he couldn’t keep up with the physical aspects needed for the breath style, he trained under his mother with flower breathing instead. He began to perform better, but it still wasn’t up to his parent’s standards. He continues to work tirelessly, even when his sister joined him under flower breathing when she was five.

Senna, as she grew older, outclassed Mazin in every way when he was her age. His parents would praise her generously and be more encouraging towards her compared to Mazin. It left him feeling extremely inadequate, especially since he would be ridiculed more than praised. By the time he reached the age of thirteen, his nichirin blade had still not changed color. Meanwhile Senna’s changed when she was eight and had already had a good grasp on several forms. His parents were beginning to get concerned and reached out to a swordsmith about their situation to try and assist Mazin with changing its color.

The swordsmith they met with was Vihn who recommended Mazin stay at the swordsmith village to figure out the issue. He was twelve by the time he was sent to live there, living in the same residence as Vinh. He took a break from training for a while, it was the first time in his life he wasn’t being pressured into working. It was very new, and he found himself XXX. He stayed there until he turned seventeen when his nichirin blade finally changed color, indicating he is proficient in mist breathing.

He was nervous to apply to be a Tsugoku, knowing that the mist hashira, Hisakiri, had turned down many applicants prior. Immediately after passing his final exam he sent an application with little hope in actually being accepted. It took a few months before he had received an invite to the hashira base. This is when he finally met Hisakiri who accepted him into the position.
