About

Stoic | Observant | Righteous

Markov was originally created as a generic working-combat model— something to offer little personality but plenty of intimidation and protection. His hulking size and otherwise silent nature is one of the hallmarks of his particular model. Although visually large and quite intimidating it is relatively difficult to pinpoint a specific set of species he was hybridized from (miscellaneous canine and ursine genetics making the majority). Temperament wise Markov is relatively tame compared to his extremely volatile and hot headed brethren. He tends to be the strong, stoic type who isn't particularly quick to anger or act. He enjoys getting to sit back and observe his surroundings. Underneath his tough exterior he can actually be rather affectionate in his own way— enjoying doing simple gestures and occasionally giving gifts to those around him. While not out-spoken or brazenly affectionate the sentiments are still definitely there.

Markov was raised from an early age to be aware of his purpose. His first memory might as well be him getting assigned his specific role and a little later beginning training. They're not entirely fond memories but they're not at all particularly bad. He remembers his first time being hired to work as a bodyguard fondly though, as well as a number of his experiences in working security detail for a given client. Despite the fondness for his job he has began to find it boring and a tad bit stifling. It's monotonous— things rarely happen since he and his "brothers" tend to make ample deterrent just by being there.

For the longest time he had a steady contract with a rather rich diplomat from his home city, often following after them between the cities on prolonged business trips. It is on one of these business trips where he first met 4∅4. They clicked very well in their own mismatched way and soon enough Markov found himself interacting more and more with the small leporine-hybrid. Each visit becoming more and more anticipated. Upon the completion of his contract with the diplomat Markov decided to settle down in the new City instead of renewing or returning home. He currently works as security and a bouncer under Atlas. Atlas openly welcomed another bouncer on staff, as the position had opened up not to long ago from the last guy meeting some unfortunate circumstances. Markov wisely shares his partner's uneasiness towards their shared boss. He may not know as much as 4∅4, or someone who was native to the city, but he can discern well enough that they are not to be trusted.

Markov doesn't have too many aspirations but he happily indulges in 4∅4's desire to travel. While circumstances won't actually allow traveling, not for a while at least, the pair do not let it damper their plans. Instead they spend their time together or with the young teen Charles who was, not too long ago, taken in by Markov on a whim. Markov hopes to give the boy a stable environment and at least some guidance— something Charles wouldn't have gotten while living on the street. While not terribly close now, in the future Markov and 4∅4 do become something akin to parents for the boy.

Design Notes:

  • Very buff! Has muscles.
  • While drawn paw-like in the ref he has a relatively normal sort of hand. Can still be drawn paw-like but preferred not.
  • Colors on his face can change! So does the space under the bars/his visor-cheek area(?). They will be matching colors, just different tones.
  • He is not considered a "Canon Protogen" because his crotchplate is removable. However, it is preferred that it is drawn unless stated otherwise.
  • He has two sets of ears! There is a larger pair and then a smaller pair slightly off-set behind and under the main pair.
  • Non-retractable claws! However, if you can't draw or feel it makes the hand appear cluttered they can be omitted from the design.
  • Generic animal design, so he is not expressly based off of one creature or set of creatures. Just a general predator vibe!
  • Does not have a display on his shoulder-plates! Just a flat/smooth metal surface. Same goes for the place protogen insignias are normally placed.

•̩̩͙*˚ chunk edition ˚*•̩̩͙

  • Markov is a man of very few words. Furthermore, an idea aided by his particular model, most tend to expect him to be rather boorish— an unfair assumption which is in no way helped by his tendency to growl and grumble. Those of the traditionalist/anti-augmentation crowd tend to think of him as a bit dull— and some even believe he is not a creature that can function outside of its original role. The truth couldn't be further opposite. While he remains a man of very little words, Markov is rather intelligent and amazingly well traveled. He is also very precise, and can be sharply articulate when he feels the need. The man can handle himself and do whatever he wants (thank you very much)! He is in no way tethered to the occupation thrust upon him at his "birth" outside of a faint inclination towards wanting to guard stuff.
  • Whether he likes it or not, he's very action oriented. There is no flight response— he'd not be a combat oriented creature with one. His immediate response tends to lean towards immediate action. Even though he seems so mild mannered underneath his fuse is always running short.
  • Actually gets jumpy during long periods of downtime. It doesn't really show to those not familiar with his habits, but inactivity tends to stress him out a whole ton.
  • Almost always prepared for whatever may happen. He prefers to plan ahead when given a chance, although nowadays that's mostly used for preparing dates and back up dates should the original plan fall though. Tends to carry first-aid in a compartment on his thigh.
  • Doesn't have a particularly good relationship with his "brothers" and honestly he probably doesn't know half of their names. Unlike 4∅4, he was not raised in an environment that even remotely mimicked a family structure. In fact, 4∅4's situation is unique and quite fascinating to Markov— as it would be to many other of this world's Protogen.
  • Markov was not the name given to him at birth/creation, but was what one of his employers tended to call him. The name stuck and he liked it. Said employer had been an older, eccentric diplomat that Markov was rather fond of. Markov had actually renewed his contract several times over the years with them; working for several years until they died of natural causes.
  • Markov originates from a city with a fairly strong traditionalist movement, which has shaped him in both big and small ways. He doesn't particularly mind it though— as long as he was paid and still treated like any other person he couldn't've gave less of a shit about whether someone else was complaining about something or not.
  • Also could not give less of a shit whether he's an advanced AI or not.
  • Built insanely sturdy. His plating, while no where near as self-regenerating as 4∅4's alloy, can take quite a beating with minor damage. He himself also has a high rate of regeneration. Most non-fatal incidents can be brushed off as long as someone (be it himself or a medic) administers the correct treatment.
  • Does not like Atlas. Had originally been very grateful towards it for offering him a job so close to 4∅4 but as time went on he realized just how unnerving the older protogen was. Tends to prefer to keep his distance.
  •  Habitually refers to Atlas as 4∅∅ instead of their common alias— mostly because he hasn't quite gotten the context behind the name.
  • (Excerpt from forum) Markov tends to accidentally growl and chuff when particularly pleased or happy. Typically it's considered very rude to use nonverbal vocalizations like that in the culture they live in, short of maybe some rare purring if it is a creature capable of purring. Markov tends to set people on edge when he growls, too, since the image evoked by a growling combat unit usually isn't, "oh it's happy" and instead something akin to, "we are now in danger." Thankfully for him 4∅4 doesn't mind the occasional grumble, and infact finds it both endearing and helpful in determining Markov's mood.
