Dr. Decius

A mad scientist that started everything.

Long ago he went by the name of Bernard Rieux. He was a talented doctor with a fascination for the super natural. When his country started off World War II, he used the chaos to his advantage to get the okay to pursue this study. After all, if he could harbor the power of the super natural then what's to say he couldn't use it to strengthen the army?
Bernard hunted those that weren't human, performing every kind of experiment on them. How strong was their regeneration? How did it work? Was it the same with every being? How did their body produce such powers? He learned it all the hardest, longest way possible. By dissecting everyone that crossed his path.
One day one of the people he had to experiment with escaped, leaving a large gash across the scientist's face. Bernard painstakingly stitched himself back together, but the pain was enormous. In the midst of that pain, one thing stuck out to him, one thing he had seen among his many experiments: immortality. Regenerative immortality. To take this wound and heal it while living forever, how much he desired it!
He worked endlessly. There were no breaks or resting, not until he had this done, then he'd have all the time in the world.
And just as the war ended, he finished it. With his work place infiltrated, he had no choice but to experiment his serum on himself.
With a scorching pain, he succeeded.
Immortality and a fast regeneration was all his, but the serum was far too unstable. His thoughts and feelings were amplified and overwhelmed him, and he lost his mind. Bernard Rieux was erased, and Decius was his new name.

Notes: Bernard Rieux's name is based off of, well, Bernard Rieux, a doctor and main character of the book, The Plague, by Albert Camus. I named Decius's normal side after this because I was reading the book at the time and this would be a reminder for me to finish it (I never did rip, but I own the book so that day will come soon). The crazy's name, Decius, comes from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. I named him Decius to help me study the play, and I wanted a minor character so I wouldn't be studying the basics (Decius was the one who stopped Caesar from running by kneeling in front of him. See? I remember!).

Funny enough, I never expected for this to turn out as a Jekyll/Hyde kinda deal. It was only going to be Decius. I don't know what brought along Bernard, I think an image I had of what he'd be like. Decius is an old, old character. I think older than Nikolai, and he's a five year old OC! I guess an addition like Bernard was bound to happen at some point!

Personality: Because of the unstable serum fueling through him, Decius's mind is warped. His emotions are highly amplified, yet he always has a large smile on his face regardless of what he feels. Common emotions he jumps between is gleeful and furious, and no matter what, he always prioritizes his desire to experiment and perfect his researching. 

Non-human Abilities:
- Immortality/Regeneration - The gift he gave himself; incapable of dying. Wounds he's given will heal, though it depends on what kind of wound. Small wounds will heal fairly quickly, within minutes at the fastest. If a large and important organ is destroyed, however, it may take days to weeks for him to heal back. During this time he will be immobile.
- Boosted Strength - A side effect from his serum that boosts his basic skills.

Favored Weapons:
- Serums - Underneath his lab coat are two straps across his chest, each one holding different kinds of serums. These serums range from making someone sleep to reversing healing effects. Don't forget, they can be used against him too!
- Circular Saw - His favorite weapon of all time. He loves chasing people around with it and slicing them up. Nearly anytime you see him he has this around.

Drawing Details: Decius always has a large smile on his face. His outfit consists of a long lab coat with a sad skull and crossbones at the tail end; red goggles at the top of his head; and gloves that go up to the middle of his forearms.

Fun/Extra Facts:

- Decius talks weird. It's incredibly hard to decipher what he's saying at first, but over time you'll end up being able to translate it. He also speaks so loud that his comments end in a plethora of explanation marks.

- He loves candy. If you find yourself being chased by him, giving him candy is the easiest way to stop him. His favorite is taffy.

- An apple a day keeps the doctor away. In this case, it's true. Decius is scared of apples. Nobody knows why.

- After taking the serum for the first time, he was able to escape from being captured by foreign armies and fled overseas to start a new life with his wife.

- Because of how unstable the serum is, there are times when his body purges it and returns him to his Bernard state. During these moments he is presumably back to a normal state, able to talk and think normally, but also be hurt and fatally wounded.

- Bernard considers these brief periods to be terrifying and horrible, as that means he's capable of being killed. He tries to get to his serum as fast as he can.

- Bernard was married back before the serum was even in the process of being created. He loved her dearly, but she refused to take the serum and has since passed away due to old age. He took care of her as long as he could.

- His serums are the reason for Cameron and Smiley's immortality. And possibly other problems.
