Acha lived as a sea otter in the early 1700s in what is known today as western Canada and southern Alaska. She enjoyed her life playing around with other otters and eating fish and sea urchins as sea otters do. Makoa tended to visit her region from time to time, and the wanderer was always welcomed by playful and enthusiastic otters.
One day Acha fell prey to humans on the hunt. Makoa who happened to see this was saddened by the loss of a happy member of his entourage and ended up transforming her spirit before it left this plane. Acha has no ill feelings toward her hunters and enjoys her new life tremendously, not remembering that many details of her otter days.
Acha's first century passed smoothly as she essentially continued her business as she was in life. Her friends readily accepted her new form and life went on as before with lots of playing, exploring and having fun. Acha is grateful to Makoa for her new life and her way of expressing her thanks is making sure his visits are always filled with fun.
Something started changing, and Acha's sea otter friends gradually started disappearing much faster than they had before. This continued for decades, until she couldn't find her friends anymore. The disappearance of otters was accompanied by the gradual shrinking of her kelp forest home. Around the late 19th and early 20th century Acha was left alone in a barren land. The esk didn't care to stay in her boundary without her friends, so she left.
Acha wandered around for a long time, exploring the ocean and the land as well. She had never spent this much time out of her home before, and in the long term the shift in energy outside her boundary and especially outside her biome bothered her some. She spent a lot of time in the Conservatory around this time period, and started properly making friends with other esk for the first time. Acha still returned periodically to her boundary to see if anything had changed, only to leave time and again.
Eventually, upon a visit back to her boundary, Acha encountered a small group of sea otters. She was overjoyed and joined the group to act as their guardian, soon introducing them to a visiting Makoa. Gradually the otter population started growing bringing kelp back to the area, slowly becoming a forest once again.
The forest or the population have never reached the same size as they were back in time, keeping Acha a little worried in the back of her mind. Whenever the population declines again Acha is brought back to her memories of the empty barren seafloor, and either disappears for a while to have fun elsewhere or stays to try and protect her home however she can.
