02 — Personality
Akemi has shown to be rather mature for her age with the way she thinks and acts. Always thinking about what needs to be done and rather work oriented because of it, the female often comes across as unapproachable due to the fact that she likes to keep busy. It doesn’t particularly help the fact that her social skills are somewhat limited by the fact that she spent a good part of childhood caring for her mother, however Akemi still tries her best to be friendly. She has a strong desire for friendships and it shows in the ways she cares deeply for the few she has. Fiercely loyal and naturally protective, Akemi is a good friend to have.
Because she is used to taking care of her mother, Akemi has grown accustomed to extending that care to others regardless of her relationship with them. Surprisingly soft hearted, she can’t turn a blind eye to someone who could use help and is always there to extend a hand without expecting much in return. Of course she isn’t pushy and knows not to overstep her boundaries. An upside to this however is that Akemi has grown used to doing things on her own and finds it awkward to ask for her as she is not used to having others to rely on.
Naturally observant, Akemi is always paying attention to others and picks up on a lot of things. If you ask her opinion on something she will give to you with little hesitation. As she is always thinking things over, the female often comes across as rather wise for her age, a sign that she grew up faster than she was supposed to. However because of her calmness towards stressful situtations and her sometimes sharp delivery of her words Akemi can come off as tone deaf in terms of sparing feelings but she genuinely well meaning.
More so a quirk of hers, Akemi is noted to have a rather interesting sense of humor. A big fan of word play and double meanings the female often has a good chuckle over her jokes that mostly fail to land with others.

03 — Background
Akemi grew up only knowing her mother. With her father disappearing long before she was born, Akemi’s family consisted merely of her mother and the many men that came in and out of her life. Akemi was quick to realize two very important things about her mother; she couldn’t bear to be alone and she had terrible taste in men.
As she was just a child, Akemi could only watch as her mother was used by men who pretended to love her and her mother just taking it. It wasn’t something that Akemi liked to see and it displeased her even more when her mother begged her not to try and come to her defense, often being bribed with candy for her silence. To her mother, it was a way to protect her but to Akemi it only highlighted her own sense of helplessness.
Therefore Akemi worked to lessen the burden of caring for her and worked to become more self-sufficient. Maturing fast, Akemi didn’t have a chance to enjoy a normal childhood as she spent it taking care of both herself and her mother while staying clear of all of her mother’s boyfriends. The process would go on for some time; her mother would date a terrible man and receive all of their mistreatment while Akemi kept everything afloat in the background. She did well in staying out of the way, as her mother hated seeing her hurt, and simply tended to injuries that Akemi herself felt she could tolerate.
A boiling point would soon be reached when Akemi turns twelve. Bearing quite the hatred for her mother’s current boyfriend as he was much more violent compared to the others and was not subtle in only being with her for her money and body, Akemi found herself growing tired of simply watching her mother get hurt in the name of love and eventually snaps on the man as she returns home from school to find her mother beaten nearly to the point of unconsciousness.
Ignoring her mother’s plea to not get involved, Akemi simply launched herself at the older man with intent to kill. Angry at her interference, Akemi does her best to take a few good hits as it keeps the attention of her mother. She was always protecting her so now it was Akemi’s turn to protect her. Akemi would be spared suffering from any major injuries due to police arriving at their neighbor’s call as they were worried about the commotion. Her mother would be admitted to the hospital with Akemi working hard to maintain their home and finances despite her mother’s worry as Akemi simply wanted her to focus on getting better.
During her hospital stay, her mother would eventually end up falling for her doctor and soon begin dating. Akemi recognized him as a good man compared to the trash she dated and gave her approval as he made her mother happy and treated her well so far which is what Akemi wanted for her. Shortly after she turned fourteen the two would marry and while Akemi is happier there still is a sense of awkwardness between herself and her new step father that she isn’t sure how to address.
04 — Trivia

Etymology : Akemi means (暁) "Dawn" and (美) "Beauty" while Gushiken means (具志堅) "strong-willed" or "of firm determination".

Akemi has a sweet tooth and can always be found munching on some sort of candy, mainly lollipops. This stems from her often receiving candy for being brave from her mother. She likes to give out to those she feels are feeling down. She also tends to give them to kids and is pretty popular in her neighborhood because of it.

Wants to become a doctor when she’s older and has a deep interest in medicine which stems from her desire to help people.

Has a pet dog called Bear. As opposed to his name he is actually a rather small dog.
