Salem is a very self-centered person. Due to his abandonment from his parents, he's always felt the need to put himself first and not rely on others for anything. With the exception of his "father" he's stood true to this ideology. Since his rescue, Salem has focused himself on being powerful, feigning showing any sort of weakness. He's studied countless fields in depth, and often uses his knowledge as leverage over others in conversations. Yet when it comes to showing his own interests, he's very aloof. He enjoys keeping others interested in knowing about him, but never giving anything away.

His negative and manipulative traits aside, Salem isn't one to stray from conversation. In fact, he loves idle talk, and is very charismatic. Contrary to popular belief, he does come off more laid back, and most his jabs come with a lighter tone.

Salem was raised in a small secluded town that was very close knit and had extreme religious beliefs, especially when it came to that of magic. Magic was known in the world, though only few could actually possess it. The town hated anything to do with magic, and if you showed any signs of it you were banished from the town to die. Children were no exception to this, in fact they were the most common victims. Salem began showing signs at the age of 7, and without hesitation his parents took him to the forest in the middle of the night and abandoned him with just the clothes on his back.

Salem didn't understand what exactly happened as he awoke in the midst of the forest alone without his parents. At first it just seemed like a nightmare, but the longer he trudged through the forest, the more he realized it was a reality. As he tried to find his way home he found the remains of other young children like himself, alone and withering away in the forest. Yet even though he was scared, traumatized, sickly...he had a fire to keep going. He began taking items from the children he found, eating rodents, hunting for himself. But even that was not enough for survival. Eventually, as if the forest was draining his energy, he slowly succumbed to his bodies listlessness.

Life seemed to have different plans for him though. To his surprise he awoke once more, but this time in the hands of a strange tall man. The man nursed him back to health, and despite his outward appearance being intimidating and otherwordly, Salem saw him as the first beacon of hope since his abandonment. The man cared for him, and raised him like a son, and eventually Salem came to know him as Dad.

His father was famous for black magic, who wandered the forest and helped the souls of the wandering children find their final resting place. Salem was inspired heavily by him, and wanted to follow in his foot steps and become a master of the dark arts.
