born and raised in japan, both okiku and her older cousin chose to move to aether harbor following the loss of okiku's aunt and uncle. it's here that she earned her surgeon's license, and she now works at st. junipero hospital fulltime as a trauma surgeon. when the rifts opened, she also stepped up to help owl research the effects of homesickness on off-worlders, to varying degrees of success. on her (albiet rare) off days, she can be seen with her nose in a book at the library or poking around at the wildlife in the park.
clothing. okiku tends to wear pastel clothes in order to make herself more "approachable" to others. she also tends to wear layers in an attempt to keep as little skin revealed as possible. it's common to see her in sweaters and cardigans in the middle of summer. she always wears gloves. she almost always wears a face mask, which typically has a cute face drawn over it in clothing marker.
accessories. okiku tends to wear a plethora of pastel hairclips in her hair. she can also typically be seen with a pastel pink heart-shaped purse worn crossbody.
scars. most of okiku's scars are kept hidden under her clothes, but a keen eye who watches her wash her hands might notice the vast laceration scarring all over her hands and wrists. there are also small circular burn scars down the back of her neck, which are visible in glimpses underneath her hair.
health. okiku is overall pretty physically healthy, though she does suffer from a traumatic brain injury and its lasting effects. half of her mouth is paralyzed, she is prone to frequent mild to severe headaches, and she can't look at bright screens for long periods of time.
additionally, okiku suffers from a multitude of mental health conditions, including schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, and borderline personality disorder. these are all diagnosed and properly medicated, but she is not open about it with anyone outside of those who are incredibly close to her.
