okiku is very tall and lanky. she is severely underweight. her ribs, hip bones, and spine are all visible underneath her skin. this thinness is accentuated by broader shoulders and small breasts.

her hair is self-maintained, which leads to her choppy, uneven bangs that fall across her brow in a left-falling diagonal cut. the pieces framing her face both fall down to about her belly button while the rest of her hair is very short and sticks up in weird places. she has a heart-shaped ahoge which grows atop her head and falls down in front of her face.

the right lock of hair (that is, her left) that frames her face is a soft lilac in color, not silvery white.

02 — Personal Information
Talent
Okiku is one of the youngest surgeons to catapult through medical school and come out with her license at only twenty years old. Not only that, but her abilities to work quickly and efficiently have earned her the world's lowest mortality rate of only 0.05%. She is known for bringing people back from the brink of death, taking on the most difficult and grave tasks and pulling through with flying colors.
Despite her prowess, her reputation is less than stellar. Many patients who go to her tend to have second thoughts upon meeting her, assuming her to be incompetent based on her demeanor. However, rarely do they leave unsatisfied or, most importantly, dead.
Personality
Okiku is... Not someone who gets along with other people, however that is not for any unfriendliness or coldness. Her manner of speaking, stilted on stutters and words that move so quickly they tumble over themselves, is grating on the ears to any with a lack of patience, and the words she says can often come out crass, gross, or simply undignified. Every conversation with her is a push and pull as she tries to be closer to people than she actually is before startingly remembering her place. The things she talks about are eccentric at best, and downright chilling at worst. Beads of sweat paint her brow and cheek in a permenant dampness that never seems to dissipate no matter how cool it gets. She stands as tall and as rigid as a statue at nearly all times.
And yet, despite these eccentricities, at her core, Okiku is a kind young woman. She likes people and, as far as she's aware, people like her, too. She is exceedingly friendly, sometimes overly so, and more than willing to lend an ear or a hand to someone in need. The only question is if someone is willing to take a hand that's as clammy as hers is...

03 — Background
Public Background
Not too much is known about Okiku Nakajima's life before she rocketed into the public eye after receiving her MD at only nineteen years old. Born in Osaka, Japan, she spent most of her life in Himeji being raised by her aunt and uncle. She took her National Center Test for University Admissions and, after achieving a flawless score, graduated high school and entered University at only twelve years old. She achieved a surgeon's license only a year after her MD, and is accredited to pioneering several different surgical techniques including the Nakajima Cut, a technique used for heart transplants.
With a mortality rate of 0.05%, the waitlist to receive life-saving services from the young surgeon grows ever-steadily, despite her reputation for being rather strange and difficult to speak with. People from all over the globe clamor to receive her care. She is often referred to by her western patients as the Angel of Mercy.

On technicality, Okiku is my oldest still-operating OC, however she has gone through tremendous changes since her original debut. About the only things she has retained since are her white hair, purple eyes, mask, and nervous demeanor.

The name Nakajima literally means "middle island." The name Okiku literally means "chrysanthemum," however it is also an extremely old-fashioned name that is rarely used in modern times.

The name "Okiku" was lifted from the real Japanese legend of Okiku and the ten plates. The story goes that the maiden Okiku worked as a servant for a samurai who constantly told her he was in love with her. After repeated refusals to marry him, the samurai broke one of the ten prized plates of his family and blamed it on her, a crime punishable by death. In a frenzy, Okiku repeatedly counted the nine plates, desperate to find the tenth one. When she could not, she went to the lord in guilty tears. He told her that her crimes would be forgiven if she would finally marry him and, when she once again refused, he threw her down a well. Legend says her spirit continued to climb up the well and enter the kitchen, where she would count the nine remaining plates and go beserk when she could not find the tenth.

Okiku is autistic. She also suffers from C-PTSD, BPD, OCD, and Schizoaffective Disorder. All of these conditions have been carefully researched (or I have been diagnosed with them myself), and I do my best to portray them as accurately and respectfully as possible.
