“When you believe in something, and I mean really believe in something, there’s nothing in the whole world that can stop you from achieving it.”

Kez is the more excitable and optimistic co-leader of Team Sparks, and the one with the dream of creating a Pokémon Paradise. But he did more than just dream about it - he worked his tail off to make that dream a reality. While initially Ashley joined him for lack of anywhere else to go, she was quick to be inspired by his dedication and promised her help in creating a Pokémon Paradise. And as more and more Pokémon joined, Paradise got bigger and bigger until it was a thriving and diverse place, with dojos, shops, games, and more nestled in forests, along rivers, and on the peaks of the small mountains that form Paradise’s northernmost border. It’s no longer just The Sparks that make use of Paradise’s request board and facilities, but other teams of explorers and treasure-hunters alike.

Kez knows the moves Dual Chop, Dragon Breath, Swords Dance, and False Swipe, and has the ability Mold Breaker. His item of choice is the Persim Band, as his worst nightmare is accidentally hurting one of his allies in battle. Kez has a huge sweet tooth, but can’t stand the taste of dry foods, which he claims taste bland. His favorite berry to eat is the Pecha berry, while he’d rather not eat Chesto berries unless he has to - usually by another Pokémon forcing them down his throat, as in that situation he’d be too unconscious to eat them himself. In Pokémon terms, he would be described as having an Adamant nature.

Trivia:

- I couldn’t figure out what to name Kez, so I asked my twin to come up with a name. Her response was to call him Kezi, but since I pictured my partner as male, I ended up deleting the I. Hence the name Kez was born

- Kez was actually called Axew in my aborted second playthrough, when I realized it made no sense for PMD partners to just randomly have a human or non-species name. However, in GtI your partner specifically asks you to give them a nickname, so I went back and changed his name. It was too nostalgic for me not to have

- My cousin’s team actually happened to be the inverse of mine by coincidence, with Axew being the main character and Pikachu the partner
