Queen Danaus

one of the eldest three changeling queens alive (aside from chrysalis), queen danaus is well respected for her hooves in keeping changelingkind safe and hidden while ponies expand ever onward. she is over 1,253 years old, old enough to have witnessed the banisment of nightmare moon. she is not immortal - however, changeling queens can only die if they are killed. so, she simply hasn't been killed yet. she could be, but the killer would have to suceed and good luck with that!

danaus is one of the council of queens. her voice is vital to keeping disputes between hives calm. she has a lot of input that younger queens like to dismiss, until they realize she was right.

danaus is known for being quite diplomatic. she's often the best queen to go to if you are in need of help with interpersonal disputes as she is usually level headed and able to see both sides of an issue. that being said, she prefers to work with the other queens when it comes to inter-hive politics.

danaus is also extremely petty. her whole life, she has had a rivalry with queen apatura of the emperor hive. they bicker over the most inconsequential things, somewhat unaware of how much it affects the smaller hives trying to appease the two of them. currently, they're fighting over smoke signal. they know what that horse is capable of and they want the power for themselves. too bad for them, smoke signal thinks they can have both queens as lovers and is currently succeeding.

the monarch hive is located near templesville, where the old horse temple is located. there's power there, plus it's very out of the way of ponies so there's less risk of discovery.

because changelings need to consume a little solid material, danaus has become extremely fond of an expensive draconic tea. that plus a little meat every so often is enough solid material for her to exist comfortably as her hive is easily one of the most prolific love gatherers. she gets very cranky if she runs out of her favorite tea. her drones keep it stocked for her to avoid this.

danaus' pony disguise is amber crown, a tall, old money unicorn matriarch who collects antiques and fossils (though danaus doesn't consider them as such). she sometimes hangs out around canterlot for love + gossip, although she decided to leave when chrysalis was plotting.
