one of the three eldest changeling queens alive. she's well known for encouraging the advancement of changeling culture, even though changelings have had to spend most of their existance in the shadows.

being over a thousand years old and witnessing nightmare moon's banishment, apatura has a lot of rather bizzaire hobbies. she has been painting the same spot at the same time every year for 1,240 years. there's a very large gallery of every single image. she also has been working on the same large sculpture for like. a century.

apatura is a member of the council of queens. even if some of the younger queens don't want to listen to her, she makes sure her voice is heard.

apatura is certainly one of the more motherly of queens. although she has several thousand grubs a year, apatura does her best to make sure each one knows they are loved by her specifically. her changelings are models of growing up healthy and strong because she just Loves Them All So Much. it's difficult for her to give much individual attention, but she tries !!

apatura has an eye for art and fashion. because she has such a large hive, her tastes tend to influence the greater changeling culture even unintentionally, so it's a good thing she knows what she's doing! she's had several centuries of practice after all.

that being said, apatura has a lot of pride in herself, and she will stop at nothing to defend it. this means that she has engaged in a very long, very petty rivalry with queen danaus because danaus keeps insulting her pride. it's a thousand-year rivalry and still going strong.

the emperor butterfly hive is located near templesville because of the magical power and relative privacy there. unfortunately, she shares territory with danaus. whoo.

apatura's pony disguise is an old money pegasus matriarch named royal flush. royal flush is known for her love of gambling, and some say it borders on addiction. of course, apatura spends little time in her pony disguise so she doesn't have nearly as much of a problem as ponies think. royal flush is also known for her business dealings - she operates a loan service, and while she doesn't collect nearly as much interest as most she can be very choosy about her clientele. she won't loan money to just anypony!
