PERSONALITY

Lark exudes an infectious enthusiasm that can make even a seasoned couch potato excited about hiking and camping. She's quick on her feet and a great problem solver. She has a surprisingly gentle touch and a knack for comforting others, which is useful in her work as a forest ranger. Even in high stress situations, she's able to remain level-headed and act as an anchor for those around her. she loves a good adventure, but loves lounging by a fireplace bundled in a soft blanket just as much, if not more at times.

However, Lark's prickly appearance isn't just a facade. They’ll jump in to defend hikers and campers from threats, and generally works hard to make sure everyone is having both a fun and safe time.

She can be scatterbrained and holds a bizarre wealth of information, mostly related to the ecosystem. While maintaining a regular schedule can help her stay on task, she prefers to not hold herself to any particular rigid structure. She enjoys doing things her own way and on her own time. She doesn’t mind receiving assistance from others, and will ask for help if need be, but she doesn’t like feeling dependent on others and will avoid it if possible.

If it were not for their innately strong sense of direction and handy compass, Lark would get lost more often than they would care to admit. They cannot remember verbal directions, and is even worse with names and dates. Their ADHD makes them run on "Lark Time," which can be either ahead of or behind a standard schedule depending on the day. They do their best to have visual reminders for important events and tasks, but sometimes they still needs an accountability buddy to help them out. They are exceptionally nosy and are prone to eavesdropping, but don’t like to gossip and wouldn't disclose sensitive information on a whim. They simply like to know what's going on, even if it really doesn't concern them.

Despite her approachable attitude, Lark often remains evasive and prickly when it comes to her own personal information or her feelings. She likes to pretend that she's an extremely open person, but in actuality is very selective with the information she gives out to others. She is particularly self-conscious about how prickly her quills and tail are. She’s chronically touch-starved because of this, since she avoids physical contact in order not to accidentally hurt others.

NARRATIVE

CHILDHOOD

Lark was a timid child. Born into a family of ecologists, her family spent a lot of time outdoors. Unfortunately for Lark, every little thing about the outside world frightened her. Bugs were horrifying, trees were always far too big, and even a stronger gust of wind sent her off whimpering.

Her family, wanting her to overcome these fears, brought her along on an ecological survey. Some point along the way, Lark got separated from her family in the forest. Scared and alone, she hid herself within the dense branches of a fir tree. A friendly forest ranger ended up finding her, but Lark was too afraid to leave the tree. The ranger didn't pressure Lark, instead waiting patiently and talking to her to calm her down. Eventually, Lark calmed down enough to emerge from the tree and the ranger was able to reunite her with her family. The ranger gifted Lark with a compass, telling her it will help keep her from getting lost again.

This experience changed Lark. She wanted to be the one to help those who are lost and scared, just like that ranger. She didn't want to be afraid anymore. Afterwards, Lark began accompanying her parents on more and more surveys. With each trip, she learned more about the world around her, and the more she learned, the braver she became.

RELATIONSHIPS

SWEETGUM | Familiar. This little gecko spends most of its time living in Lark's tail. It goes everywhere with Lark and finds comfort amongst her prickly coat. Lark appreciates its quiet company and silly attitude.

LAMPI | Girlfriend. Light of Lark's life. By far the best encounter she has had in the forest surrounding Kissaki Village, and the reason she became a permanent resident of the village.

ROAN | Wingwoman. One of Lark's closest friends. Just two useless sapphics trying to navigate the big wide world.

RILI | Mount Familiar. Lark's trusty steed. He assists her in rescue missions, especially those that involve mountainous or watery terrain. Lark loves to spoil him.
