Melbourne

Melbourne is Halloway's other father and the true love of Queen Diantha.

He falls hopelessly in love with one of the princesses of King Saul's harem, Diantha. They make plans to run away together when suddenly she is found to be with child! When the prince is born attached to half a slimy, scaley, snakey beast, only Melbourne knows what's really "wrong" with the boy - it's not just King Saul's, it's his too.

Once a court doctor, he was locked away in the dungeons. Not killed; he was more useful alive to King Saul as leverage. Halloway was to never, ever know about Mel - once he finally meets him, its like everything makes sense.

Mel is a lindwyrm so, thanks to their incredibly complicated conditions of reproduction, never thought he'd have a son, and especially not with a princess. He loves Halloway so much, despite only having barely met him. He's been in Halloway's life for like, a month, tops, and he's already a better dad to him than Saul has ever been.

Species Profile

Lindwyrms are a special kind of dragon that has magically adapted to life among their favorite prey: humans. By stealing a human's form via shared procreation, a lindwyrm is the most talented of all dragons at shapeshifting. It's much easier to shift into a form you already have than to make one entirely from scratch.

Unfortunately, due to dragon hunts and lindies' dependancy on humans for the continuation of their species, their numbers have dwindled alarmingly low.
