Clothing Style

Gale always tends to dress for practicality over aesthetic, and she rarely dresses in a manner that is "overly feminine" in any sense. Her outfits are always in the typical style for her tribe, which includes all handmade garments, many of which are made of or include leather. Since the weather is usually warm, she doesn't dress too heavily. This usually means when she's wearing longer sleeves that they're made of lighter material unless she's out on patrols or going into combat. In these cases she'll wear whatever is study and covering enough to protect the important parts of her body while also not impeding her movement too much. Her outfits usually have a lot of light brown from the leather with the traditional patterned accent designs shown in many of the Soratan Wolves' clothing or cloth work, which mostly consists of purples with yellow/gold symbols.

Gale usually wears practical tops and pants with boots when doing work, and she'll only be seen wearing skirts or dresses for special events in the village or when in very casual or intimate get-togethers. The only accessories she tends to wear are a gold armband and a sash she usually wears around her waist, along with any simple hair accessories she might be wearing. The gold armband has the symbol of the Cloudline family engraved on it and was gifted to her when she and Dusk were married. Inside the armband are multiple tiny tubes set into a hidden maze of sorts, and it can only be unlatched using Ayr rifting to go through the tubes, and obviously only members of the Cloudline family are taught the specific way to open it.

Personality

Gale was the strong matriarch of the Soratan Wolves, known for both her unwavering bravery and compassionate heart in protecting and nurturing the tribe. First impressions of Gale always tend to be strong considering how charming and confident she was, and her friends knew her to be a bit cheeky and competitive while still remaining kind and supportive at her core. She was always easy to approach and talk to, although it was clear she could be a little nosy and pushy at times. Gale was a woman who knew what she wanted and always was determined to reach her goals. Her good work ethic and resourceful nature made her a reliable problem solver, and she could always maintain a level head and remain composed even when upset or uncertain. She also had a habit of being meticulous and precise with her work, although this sometimes translated into being a perfectionist and a bit stubborn about accepting help. She tended to be independent in solving her own problems, yet she was an excellent team player and was easy to cooperate with in achieving broader goals.

Gale also had a habit of keeping her personal troubles to herself. She wasn't one to ask for help unless the task at hand was team oriented already, and she was often too proud to show when she was having problems or when she was offended or concerned. Sometimes it was difficult to tell what Gale was really feeling, yet for the most part she was a rather open book about less personal matters and was always comfortable with sharing her opinions without being worried about what others would think of her.

Backstory

Gale was born into the tribe of Lupatyn Wolves, and like her parents she was trained to be a warrior to protect the tribe. Gale was rather popular among her peers for excelling in many different skills, along with her kind yet confident demeanor. While growing up, she grew particularly close with a handful of her peers in training, especially her best friend, Kamille. She naturally became friends with another one of their peers, Kazee Tyroon, whom Kamille had a crush on, along with his two closest friends, Arrow Jetstream and Dusk Cloudline. Gale and Dusk had a habit of being mildly competitive with each other during various training drills, and the two gradually grew to have a mutual crush between them. The five of them became a tightly knit unit and would frequently take on missions or go on patrols with each other as their training progressed.

As Gale and Dusk grew up, their relationship grew to be more committed, yet she was aware that Dusk's father, the chieftain, didn't seem to approve of her for some reason. Apparently he tended to blame her for Dusk's ideas of taking a more active approach in pushing back the invading tribes of Skydric and Gryphonics, since the chieftain was known to prefer more defensive tactics that they're stuck to for decades. Dusk got particularly irritated that his father thought Gale was the reason he was becoming so "reckless" in his teen years, but Gale was too proud to bother arguing with the stubborn chieftain.

At the age of 18, Dusk was involved in a particular skirmish with an attack party of Skydric Twiva lead by Xariel Airfang, the eldest son of the Skydrics' chieftain. During the fight, he and Xariel managed to injure each other and both fell from the sky down into the inner Expanse. Although the Wolves searched for him, Dusk was nowhere to be found and remained missing for years. Following his disappearance, Gale realized she was pregnant with his child, and while she tried to keep it as much of a secret as she could, it was only a matter of time before word got out. Upon realizing the child was Dusk's, the chieftain exiled her from the tribe, claiming she was trying to steal leadership from him by raising a new heir to replace Dusk and poison the clan with her reckless ideas like she did with his son. Although her friends and family were willing to fight for her, Gale quietly accepted the chieftain's wishes and left, but she was grateful that Kazee and Kamille would frequently sneak out to visit her and provide her with supplies to make raising her daughter, Darkova, on her own in the Expanse easier.

Five years later, Gale was surprised to hear that she was welcome to return to the tribe. Apparently Dusk had finally found his way home and had called out his father in a rage for not even attempting to rescue him and for allowing their tribe to fall into further disarray in his absence. After hearing that he had also exiled Gale, Dusk ultimately killed his own father to claim his place as chieftain and became the new Duke Cloudline. Gale returned to the tribe, and although it took time, she and Dusk were gradually able to settle together and raise Darkova. It was clear that the time in the Expanse had left a permanent mark on Dusk's mental state, especially since he noted that he spent most of those five years a prisoner of the Skydric clan, and then later the Gryphonic clan. Gale did her best to be supportive and coax him back into some sense of normalcy.

Following the birth of their second child, a son named Hurricane, Dusk reformed the tribe into stronger and more tactical warriors than before and began their conquest across Sorata. He gathered all the scattered villages of wolves into the same pack, and their unexpected invasion of the surrounding territories left them claiming new lands at ungodly rates. This period of time was known as their Golden Age, and the Lupatyn Wolves along with all the other joined clans were then known as the Sorata Wolves, for they owned the majority of territory by the end of their campaign. This campaign came to an unexpected screeching halt after Gale suddenly fell ill. Although she never mentioned it explicitly to anyone but her family and closest friends, Gale had been dealing with the illness for years now, yet it only recently had gotten worse. There was little they could do to treat her, and she passed away shortly after, marking the end of the Wolves' Golden Age and the death of Duke Cloudline's spirit and drive.

Trivia:

  • Gale's name is just a little reference to the air/wind theme of the Sorata Wolves as a whole.
  • Initially Gale was going to just be the typical "deceased parent" for backstory, but obviously I have no self control and have to develop all of my characters no matter how minor they might be. I never intended to develop the backstory of Hurricane's parents too much, but I should know better by now that I always do that.
