Noble Beginnings

Cala was born Calyana Meadowbrook, to parents Alexander and Cassandra Meadowbrook, in the Royal Quarter of Zaphias. Due to her "delicate" stature, her parents were quite protective of her and very seldom left her unsupervised. Cala never particularly appreciated being constantly watched, but accepted it since she knew she could inadvertently hurt herself if left alone. However, over time she began to resent her parents for this treatment.

On Cala's seventh birthday, her parents betrothed her to a member of the Imperial Knights who was quickly rising in ranks, Alexei Dinoia. Cala saw this as the "last straw" in her parents controlling her life, and decided to run away from home. She left that night, not thinking to take anything useful - such as food or extra clothes - with her. She managed to make it down to the Lower Quarter before collapsing from exhaustion. As she'd never been allowed to wander this far before, it was a tiring trip for her. It had rained on her trip down, so before falling asleep, she stripped off her soaked clothes and set them out to dry while she took shelter in an alley. She was found the next morning by Yuri and Flynn, who brought her to the orphanage.

Life in the Lower Quarter

Cala spent the next several years of her life living alongside Yuri and Flynn. The three became basically inseperable, and Cala enjoyed all the time she spent with the two boys. She took on the name Cala Rose, and Calyana Meadowbrook was, for all intents and purposes, dead to the world.

Over the years, Cala grew closer with Flynn that with Yuri - mostly due to her and Yuri's constant arguing. She divulged to Flynn about her past as a noble, and he urged her to tell Yuri as well. She refused, saying that Yuri would hate her if he found out. She asked Flynn to keep it a secret, and he reluctantly agreed. When Flyyn moved to the Citizen's Quarter with his mother, Cala made a point of trying to visit him occasionally, not wanting to lose her relationship with him. Back in the Lower Quarter, she and Yuri became closer, although their relationship often erred on the side of antagonistic. Cala eventually got a job at the Inn's restaurant, where she worked to pay for the room she was staying in.

When Yuri and Flynn both left to join the Knights, Cala found herself alone for pretty much the first time in her life. She went on with life as usual, but found it a bit strange to be without the two people she'd been best friends with since childhood. When Yuri returned from the Knights, Cala was happy, but tried to downplay it by asking why Flynn wasn't with him and fawning over Repede. After Yuri's return, he and Cala ended up stuck sharing a room, since he'd forfeit his when he left for the Knights. Over the next few years, Cala's feelings toward Yuri grew more into the realm of romantic, but she was far too stubborn to tell him.

Leaving Zaphias

Cala ended up leaving Zaphias with Yuri and Estelle, claiming that she couldn't trust Yuri not to get into trouble without her.

Weapons

Cala's main weapon is a tetsugen with a small blade attachment. The wire feeds from a spool on her upper right arm and through a bracelet to avoid tangling. The small blade on the edge is razor sharp and good for ranged combat.

Her sub weapon is knives, which she can either throw or use in CQC in a pinch.
