Durand is the longest-standing Prodigy who remains consistent in his work and the tasks provided to him. However, his seniority and title has morphed him into an individual that is critical of one's capabilities. His strict demeanor can be intense, to which it can follow up several complications between him and the other leading members of the Administration. However, because of the history in the organization affected him greatly, his attitude since the beginning of the Prodigal's existence up to recent years has changed drastically out of retrospect. In the perspective of his mentor along with many who empathize him, the Arbiter speaks harshly for the betterment of the group. He wishes to see the best in anyone that works for him, even if it means he challenges his relationships with peers or proteges.

Once physically capable through speed and agility, Durand trades it through wisdom, experience and intellect through age. Even if old and worn, Maximille is still quite dextrous. Both Administration Members and Agents alike understand that Durand cannot be underestimated.

Many describe him as condescending and relentless. He's rarely afraid and bold. But everyone admits he is the epitome of sophistication. His birth originates from a wealthy bloodline, thus he carries his image well while never forgetting proper social protocols of both eastern and western cultures.

Maximille claims he has neither friends or enemies. However, his claim is only partly true; holding grudges or having rivals mean very little or nothing to him. He denies showing any form of gentleness or care onto anyone when he's aware and fully capable of showing mercy. He shows his kindness indirectly or in private to anyone he regards as a friend, family, or even lovers.

Besides working to maintain constant contact with the Overseer, Maximille has the majority of his focus on the Prodigal's internal development and organization of its members as it begins to grow exponentially with the help of its veterans and experienced members of the Administration. Because of the experiences that many of the existing Prodigies had gone through, many are either hesitant or refuse to work with Durand as his protege. In fact, his independency had preferred that he'd "retire" from mentoring overall. However, due to unforseen circumstances, Maximille has picked up mentoring for an existing protege that's been personally requested by the Dean. Although Maximille describes Emery as "plain" at best, he begins to hold an attachment to Emery quickly. Unfortunately, his attachment towards her does not save her from Maximille's usual criticism and harshness. But it still allows others to be aware that Durand isn't as cold-hearted as what others assume him to be.

Mannerisms

Durand appears to maintain a stoic and composed demeanor. His consistency and seniority suggest a level-headed approach to his work, possibly showcasing a disciplined and unflappable character. With a critical attitude towards others' capabilities, Durand's mannerisms likely involve keen observation and analysis. His strict demeanor may manifest through a careful scrutiny of details and a demand for excellence.

Durand speaks harshly for the betterment of the group. His manner of communication may involve directness and bluntness, reflecting a commitment to pushing individuals to their potential.

Durand's claim of having neither friends nor enemies suggests a certain emotional restraint in his interactions. His mannerisms may involve maintaining a level of detachment and professionalism, especially in his role as a leader. While denying overt gentleness, Durand's mannerisms may include subtle and indirect displays of kindness. This could be observed in private interactions with individuals he regards as friends, family, or lovers, showcasing a more personal and compassionate side.

Speech

Maximille's origins are entirely from France. By definition, Durand is a French immigrant who currently resides in the United States. English being his second language, he is still very fluent in the language despite his French accent is on the heavier side. There are also certain characteristics that reflect on his French background.

Given Maximille's background in a wealthy bloodline and his sophisticated image, it's likely that his speech includes a refined vocabulary. He may use eloquent and well-chosen words, contributing to an air of sophistication in his communication.

In comparison to her speech, she is more familiar and comfortable communicating through text instead of her voice. Her writings have spent years of proper refinement, making herself more excellent writing speeches than speaking them. Maximille Durand possesses the ability to communicate effectively in different languages (French, English, Arabic, Portuguese, Welsh), showcasing a cosmopolitan and cultured aspect to his speech.

The Arbiter appears emotionally distant from others. Due to it, he shows much restraint in his speech, hence many consider him criticizing and to plainly put: Mean. It is clear he prioritizes professionalism and formality above everything else. Durand's speech may involve subtle and indirect expressions of kindness, particularly in private or intimate settings. In French communication, conveying emotions with subtlety is not uncommon, and Durand may embody this cultural aspect.

FORM 010C: History known of individual.

Background

Origin

Most of Durand's origins comes from the former identity, Algernon Chevalier. The Chevaliers are a prominent, wealthy family of French tailors that display exceptional pieces of art and have been showcased by fashion for decades. However, Algernon was second in line in taking the Chevalier business, so he prioritized other interests other than developing his craft as his elder sister remains to be the heir of the Chevalier family business. Most details and history regarding the second eldest have been purposely blacked out. As Maximille's mentor, any further information regarding his origins will be null and void.

Turning Point

Entirely given up on his former career, Algernon disappears from the public, to which he renames himself to Maximille Durand. His current name now shows very little information and any hides any connection to the Prodigal. He remains with Grandfather during the most of his young adulthood as his secretary for his evergrowing business. He, along with a few others, are one of the only few to see Grandfather start his journey first-hand into building the Prodigal. Durand was still considered too young and far to busy on Grandfather's company to truly partake in the introduction of the first Prodigies. But by technicality, he is still considered one of the first Prodigies that would start their work on balancing the world.

Because the Overseer regularly interacted with these Prodigies, Maximille desperately wanted to be part of them. Unfortunately he was left behind by the others when he tried, but Grandfather remained to continue teaching him everything that was expected of him. Perhaps his image now reflected on his mentor, since he, too, was just as relentless and strict. But only for good intentions.

Like most young prodigies, Durand was able to learn quickly thanks to the methods and advice bestowed to him by Grandfather. However, the beginning of this organization was new, so it was bound to have mistakes here and there. Unfortunately this first mistake was unforgettable. Maximille and most of the other Prodigies would be wiped out by opposing parties - most of them died while the others feared going back to impossible dangers. Whether it was sheer perseverence or his close attachment to Grandfather, Durand was the only one who remained in the group. It was because of his choice had influenced his leader to continue where they left off. Of course, not without inviting more prospects.

Durand finds two more Prodigies to join their cause. And soon enough he finds more. However, despite the numbers grew with the help of Maximille, it was decided that Grandfather would remain distant to ensure the safety of the Prodigies. Originally he refrains from meeting anyone else except for Durand, he also progressively becomes farther. From being a city away for a moment, to completely disappearing without a trace. It was difficult to organize the group without Grandfather's direct guidance, but Maximille is aware that he continues to watch them quietly. Though vague messages from unknown phone calls and short-ended letters in the mail, Durand was capable of picking up the tiny messages given to him, to which helped him run the organization single-handedly. If he were to make a mistake or there was potential danger, the Overseer has enough power to let his Arbiter know ahead of time.

Presently

Maximille has juggled between internal affairs in the Prodigal, encrypting Grandfather's messages, and mentored future proteges for the next decade or so. Thankfully, as time goes by and technology advances further, it gets easier to communicate between him or his peers and the increased numbers had lightened the his workload tenfold. As Arbiter, Maximille no longer has to travel or traverse anywhere difficult, especially when it gets harder with age. Instead, he's simply tasked to ensure the group remains organized and to provide tasks that are befitting to each Prodigy. Due to his persistive nature that he had even at his youth, he's the only Administrative Member with easy access to Grandfather when necessary.

Durand presently mentors Emery, which supposedly would be his last protege before entirely going back to his usual schedule. Although a little plain, Emery has manage to get used to the Arbiter's persistency, which is a good sign for Emery's progression.
