"Ryder, stop being a fucking moron."
His parents were absolutely loving toward him, and they still are. He received all of their attention due to being an only child. Throughout his school career he was into sports and tried any that he could come across or that had empty slots in their team. He progress through soccer in middle school but due to an asshole kicking his leg out from underneath him, and landing on it the wrong way, his time in soccer was quickly cut short.
After the injury, he met Ryder- who had recently moved into the neighborhood. He instantly hated the guy due to being annoying. Despite him being an absolute annoyance, he decided to befriend him out of pity. Fast forward to highschool and they're best friends. Now Max can't picture a life without him due to their bond.
When Ryder first invited him over to his place, he was startled at his older sister. Not because she was pretty or anything, but she was terrifying. The way she always glared at him when the two were alone or when Ryder wasn't paying attention. If Ryder wanted the three of them to hang out, they would and Rosa would be an absolute sweetheart... as long as Ryder was around.
During their senior year in highschool they met Sylvia back at Ryder and Rosa's place. They became friends over smart-ass comments and concern of Ryders well-being.

Ryder
[Love interest/boyfriend] Ryder is currently his best friend, and spends 90% of his time with. The two are inseparable now, despite the friendship starting out of pity.
Rosa
[ "sister in law" ] Max has always been terrified of Rosa. She gave him plenty of reasons to fear her, but there are small rare moments where she's kind to him without Ryder being near.
Sylvia
[ friends ] Max met Sylvia in high-school through Rosa. During one of the nights he stayed over to the Veldens house, Rosa had invited her friend as well. It was tense and awkward at first, but they soon became friends over shitty jokes and puns.
