Profile

An aloof young mage who specializes in shadow-based magic. Revor is a character used primarily in one RP setting, but I'm pretty sure he can be adapted for use in a variety of settings fairly easily.

Personality
Revor is deeply studious, and spends much of his time reading about or practicing magic. As a result his social skills leave something to be desired, and though he has grown more affable over the years he still lacks a sense of humor. He is largely pragmatic, preferring obvious solutions over more out-of-the-box thinking. He can come across as cold and self-centered at times, but he does care deeply about his friendships, and tries to be polite when in mixed company. He doesn't extend the same level of politeness to people who have slighted him; once on Revor's bad side, it's difficult to return to his good graces.

History
Born several years after the end of an intense war to General Pryce Alfrey and Ielynn Alfrey, Revor's childhood was relatively carefree and peaceful. He grew up in a moderately-sized town alongside his younger brother Kenneth, and looked up to his mother, who was a skilled magic user. She inspired him to begin studying magic at a young age, and by the time he was 10 Revor had attracted quite a bit of attention as a magical prodigy. He wasn't perfect, however, and often struggled with putting magical theory into magical practice; his glowing red eyes are the result of a botched spell. At the age of 12 he was enrolled into Whitestone Magic Academy, the most prestigious magic school in the country. As he continued to succeed in his classes Revor caught the eye of one of the world's greatest mages, Archmage Cirrus, who took note of his natural aptitude with shadow magic. A master of shadow magic herself, Archmage Cirrus offered to give Revor personalized lessons, and he graciously accepted.

Revor's time with Archmage Cirrus was cut short when he received word that his father had nearly been assassinated. He returned home to spend time with his family, only to wind up learning of a deeper plot that targeted his father and other veterans of the war. This led to an adventure to put an end to the plot, over the course of which Revor befriended Diddgery and Felrok. Afterwards he returned to Whitestone Academy, but now with a taste for adventure Revor eventually left once more alongside Diddgery and Felrok and went on a variety of adventures together. During one such adventure Revor was attacked by a werewolf and infected with lycanthropy. After some time struggling with this curse, Revor managed to adapt and, with the help of an enchanted amulet, control his transformation. Revor made a variety of new friends, learned some new magic, and traveled to several exotic locations.

All good things must come to an end, and Revor's adventures ended with another botched spell. Unlike the one that altered his eyes, this spell had a more catastrophic effect: Revor was split into two individuals with notable differences in personality who did not get along. Despite several efforts to return to normal, the two Revors could not find a way to recombine, and were left with only one option: to return to Whitestone Academy and hope that Archmage Cirrus can fix them. Revor left his many friends behind without saying goodbye, under the assumption that he would be returning shortly after his problem is solved. However, Archmage Cirrus informed Revor that because of how many lessons he missed, he would need to remain in Whitestone Academy for at least a year before going on another adventure. Revor accepted, with the thought that he could at least write to his friends until he got to see them again.

Unfortunately, things did not go as Revor had hoped. Though Archmage Cirrus was able to successfully recombine him into one being, complications arose from the extended period he spent separated. When Revor was recombined, his memory was erased. He couldn't even recall his own name, let alone the names of his friends or family. Another side effect of his reconstitution was his lycanthropy being cured; as a result, he was left with wolf ears and a tail, and his hair turned the same gray as his former wolf form's fur. Over the next few years Revor had to relearn everything... or rather, almost everything. Archmage Cirrus purposefully did not tell Revor about any of his old friends or adventures. Her reasoning was that the only reason Revor wound up in this state was because of his adventures, and decided that keeping this information from him was the best way to keep him safe. So Revor returned to his studies, ignorant of his friends, who were left to wonder what became of him.

Skills

  • Revor's main skill is his aptitude for shadow magic. By channeling the powers of darkness Revor can shape shadows into shields, blades, bats, snares, or other such forms. Besides its obvious combat utility Revor has grown accustomed to using this magic to accomplish basic tasks like turning off lights or opening doors. Has he become something of a show-off...?
  • As a leftover from his lycanthropy Revor has enlarged canines. Good for biting, plus he can't turn anyone into a werewolf. Not that he would bite anyone, though. He's a proper mage.
  • Another leftover from his lycanthropy is the ability to understand and speak to animals... or at least, animals that are sapient and speak in their own language.
