Florence and his sister Faye grew up in a very affluent city with their successful parents. Faye, his sister a few years his senior, left as soon as she was old enough to do so, leaving Florence and his parents far behind and moving to a smaller seaside city far across Crederia. Ren, eager for adventure and missing his sister, found a job as a lifeguard in her area and swiftly followed her as he came of age. 

Florence spent several years as a lifeguard and driving his sister insane when he stumbled across Lir's mansion and attached library on a walk. Fascinated by the old building, the tall, handsome Mantibab strode into the shop, touching way too many things for Lir's liking. Lir's frustration and irritation amused Ren, and the handsome lifeguard made Lir's strange shop a frequent stop, eventually winning the standoffish Librarian with his strength, warmth, and charm. 

Ren became Lir's first and only employee soon after this, and Florence kept his lifeguarding to only weekends and important holidays.
