Lachlan

Heir to a noble feral family, Lachlan is a magic-inherent canid teen attending the Very Prestigious Unnamed Magic Academy™!! All his classmates assume he's at the Academy cos he's rich, but he's actually exceptionally talented even for a feral and was scouted by the Academy. ...he just has trouble wrangling the raw power his magic can pack. Perhaps he'll get better once he admits that he's best at illusion magic and not extreme firey explosions.

Lachlan isn't a stranger to boarding schools and happily shows his new satyr roommate Sonata the ropes. Despite his best efforts to make him comfortable, Sonata's still clearly ill-at-ease and Lachlan begins to suspect it's not just because he's out of his element. He's not one to let things go and makes it a mission to work out whats up with Sonata even if he has to be patient to get his answer. Thankfully for both of them, when he finally gets it they've grown closer and it only strengthens their friendship: Sonata's used some sketchy crystal magic to make himself majin, and Lachlan's dismissal of the issue sets his anxiety at ease.

This proves to only be the beginning of the boys' trouble with crystals, though: Lachlan's back crystals - a benign growth infection he's had since puppyhood - start reacting strangely and he needs to get to the bottom of that mystery. He's always suspected they mess with his magic control, but theyd be fairly harmful to remove, so they've remained. If that wasn't enough, the natural arcane deposit the school is built around pulls a few weird stunts too - he and Sonata are about to have their hands (paws?) full of mysteries they're too impatient for the adults to solve.

Lachlan is insatiably curious and chronically 15. He can be an incredible brat completely by accident and loves attention, good or bad - if tiktok existed he would never shut up about it. Despite this, though, he is usually an absolute sweetheart, and it's very hard to dampen his spirits.
