"Oh, there's no need to apologize. It would've been nice to have known how to better treat such injuries when I was a child... perhaps it could've helped them from getting so bad in the first place. There's probably more I could do now, but... the fear is difficult to get over. It's so much more comforting to hide them and pretend they don't exist at all..."

"I suppose when I'm not keeping an eye out for troubled travelers in the mainland's desert or making sure ill-intending folks don't encroach on the island... I've been prodded into being more social by my friends. I've only known them for a few years, but I've never felt quite so... normal around others before I met them. They're very social and friendly sorts, so they're usually at the beach. I'm not exactly comfortable in that kind of environment in most cases... but it's been refreshing to just be around them and feel like I don't stick out like I usually do. Odd as it sounds, I'm not all that accustomed to doing things for fun... so it's a welcome change. How about you then?"

"It is a rather pleasant place... although it can get a bit too warm with all these layers. I'm more comfortable with just watching everyone else enjoy their time, although my friends have slowly been trying to get me to join them. I'm not quite ready for all that yet though.
And I understand that feeling. Although I have many acquaintances through my travels, I can't say I have many friends either. I'm only fortunate that the ones I do have are rather persistent with getting to know me... I tend to be so focused on my goals that I don't really think about socializing or having other hobbies... It is nice to be at this stage where interacting with others is a bit easier. And although it may not seem that meaningful, I do appreciate you taking the time to speak with me. It's not often I encounter those bold enough to even approach me first..."
