• Otis' top half and bottom half look mismatched because they are. His creators put them together as a joke after a few too many long hours in the lab and while they were laughing, they didn't expect him to whir to life. That shut them up quick, and they didn't have the heart to take him apart afterward, so Otis was named and remained functional. 
• As a result of this mismatch, Otis ended up with a lot of spare room in his bottom. Since his creators never considered that he'd have a functional purpose, they sealed up the circuits to keep them dry and used the bucket-like space for houseplants to liven up the lab. Otis cares for the plants like they are part of his own body. Whenever he waters his plants, he believes that he is watering himself too, and that this is necessary as much as keeping his batteries charged. His human creators don't know where he got this idea.
• His head "floats" separate from his body but the metal in its base has a weak attraction that keeps it more or less in place. It can be easily removed with some force. If the head gets separated from the body, the "eye" in the center of his chest will turn on and take control until the head is found. In a sense, the chest acts as a secondary "brain center." 
• Small speakers are nested on his "neck" (the head floats above it). This is his voice box. It's a little tinny but can be tuned up. 
• The blades on his shoulders are solar panels. Otis feels at peace in the sun because both him and his plants are receiving the energy they need.
• The hollow rings under his feet keep him elevated and distributes his weight while walking. It allows him to cross soft or wet ground that would otherwise give trouble to robots.
• Otis is good at measuring things at a glance and his eyes can accurately determine the length, width, and height of any object up to 100ft.
• He also learned the philosophy of feng shui somewhere and takes it very seriously. Otis says it's "mathematically satisfying," whatever that means.
• He excels at tasks that are repetitive and have very little margin for error. While performing flawless actions with dexterous fingers, he can talk or play back simplified versions of songs he remembers hearing without messing up. 
• While generally positive and good-natured, Otis is quick to blame anything that goes wrong on humans. He's not wrong.
