Valeska Havek

Valeska is a Nevarran-born mage who, for reasons she chooses not to elaborate on, took up criminal work in Ferelden. Despite her striking appearance, she has remained ever elusive to the Templars. She is wanted for murder and apostacy, but she typically runs jobs relating to smuggling and the collection of blackmail for less-than-reputable groups. 

She joins the Grey Wardens not long before they reach Orzammar, claiming an intent to partake in the Joining once the Blight is over. She aids the group in matters that require a criminal or certain type of magical background, and becomes especially close to Elizabeth. She assists Elizabeth in securing the crown in return for a full pardon and a place by her side. 

After the archdemon is defeated, she goes back on her word to join the Wardens, but remains an advisor-like figure to the new royal family, granted the new position of Teryna of Gwaren despite the extreme controversy of bestowing such power to both a mage and a Nevarran. Despite the controversy, Valeska takes to the role with grace, quashing all dissent with cunning yet comparatively honorable means. There are rumors she houses apostates from time to time, but it cannot be confirmed, as she is currently pushing most Templars out of her teyrnir. 

By the time of Inquisition, she is a known ally of the rebel mages, housing many Ferelden apostates, and openly warring with any Templars who dare approach her city. Despite her past, she is seen as a positive example of how mages are capable individuals, though many see her as the first step in Ferelden becoming much like Tevinter.
