Alpha Searcher

?? | they/it | aromantic asexual

Alpha Searcher, as their name suggests is a mini-boss that appears at the end of Zone 1 when first obtaining the add-on, Alpha. They're a powerful spectre that resembles a cross between a hooved animal and canine, and known to freely prey on cow/cattle the zone depend on for meat. However as they're the only spectre of their kind and tend to be outnumbered heavily by the lesser spectres, resorted to scavenging in a way.

NOTES

  • When defeated, they drop their own exclusive item called "Cow Chunk" that fully restores health, but a one time use. The description of it is "A slimy, warm mass of flesh. Most definitely from a bovine."
  • When used it also triggers another minor easter egg in which is only enabled if "Cow Chunk" is consumed outside of the zone. A brief text will pop up and say "Tastes raw, reminds you of the cows in Zone 1." However this text only pops up once per new game!
  • Their attacks are Bite and Scratch that inflict basic damage, however Rising Howl will increase ATK for both Alpha Searcher and the cloned add-on. The second non-damaging move is only triggered when they copied add-on is defeated + low on health and/or CP. Called Cornered, it raises Alpha Searcher's ATK by two stages, but inflicts Madness on the individual themselves.

BACKGROUND

In battle after a few attacks done by Alpha, they will proceed to use their ability to copy the add-on and slightly alter it to suit their own needs. The copied add-on has the same abilities, but a lot more weaker compared to the original and take a couple of good hits to defeat, leaving Alpha Searcher alone to fend for themselves. When defeated, they give a good amount of experience points and from there on out, will not be able to be encountered again. However the fight with them in the end is optional, as when the zone they reside in is purged will cease to exist like everything else. As a NPC and they are not purposefully approached, will simply be seen a few times on the edges of the screen and proceed to try and dart away when approached by the Batter. So they are more considered a bonus boss-fight in a sense if the Player is quick enough. As for interactions with those in the Zone, the Elsen don't really have a strong opinion on them, most likely because they're scared of Alpha Searcher.

As for Dedan, he finds them a complete nuisance and a hinderance to how he has things running and operating. Encountering and Defeating Alpha Searcher before fighting Dedan will trigger a minor easter egg in the form of mentioning the spectre and glad that they're gone, but nothing else. Backstory wise it's not really known where Alpha Searcher came from, but they're definitely different from the more common spectres.
