Schulz Blacksmith has an excellent reputation in Mondstadt. It is the first call of port for the knights, adventurers or travelers when it comes to high-quality weapons. Even at a late hour you can see the shine of the stove and hear the sound of the hammer hitting the metal through the streets of Mondstadt.
* clang ... clang *
There isn't a sign of the owner Wagner or his apprentice Schulz. Rather, a young woman is standing at the anvil, paying full attention to the blade in front of her. It’s Alenia. Newest apprentice of Wagner and also very talented when it comes to blacksmithing. She has high expectations of herself and these are reflected in her work. She is very proud of her blacksmithing. She would also do night shifts to finish the order in time or to refine her own skills. Yet Alenia never disappointed any customers.
If Alenia isn’t in the forge near the city gate, it could be that she went out to find rare ores and minerals. When Alenia senses the chance to get rare ores or stones, she will be very motivated. But this burning passion tarnishes her sense for threatening situations. After her so-called adventure, it can happen that Wagner or the knights scold her for her reckless actions.
A blacksmith demands that his customers supply the necessary materials but Alenia is different. It isn’t unusual that she helps to get the appropriate amount or that she will use materials in her own storage.
"When you see the happiness in her eyes, it is hard to scold her. In the end she got the materials which she needed. No matter if it is for her own use or for her customer."
Alenia always returns with a smile on her face. She is an unwavering optimist.
The morning sun is rising and the birds greet the morning. Sun rays catch a small cat-like figure made of ore. The shimmer catches Alenia’s attention. Before she leaves the house, she pauses for a moment and a small smile forms on her lips.
Alenia leaves her house and makes her way to the smithy. She wanted to devote herself to a request today. It was supposed to be her distraction, as she hadn't been able to get any useful information for a few days. But on the way, Alenia thought about the little figure she had carved as a child.
"Alenia, my dear child. I will give you an important task. I want you to work on this ore. It is up to you what it will be in the end but you need to finish it within a week."
One day, her father Maxwell stood in front of her with a chunk of ore and the necessary tools in his hands. It was another lesson her father wanted to teach her related to the family business. Alenia took the chunk and she was excited to begin with it.
After two days without sleep and leaving her room, Alenia holds a small figure in her hand. She proudly presents her result to her parents. It resembled their cat. Not perfect at all - sharp edges and not detailed - but they were surprised how well and quickly their 7 year old daughter did the task.
"We won’t need to be scared. You will run the family business one day."
These words made Alenia proud and from this day, she worked really hard on herself to enhance her skills.
Alenia stood before Schulz Blacksmith. Her eyes show a hint of wistfulness when she remembers of this memory.
"It is funny how life goes on. I never thought I would end up working here one day…. far away from home."
With these words, Alenia takes out the noctilucous jade, helping materials and her notebook to start the work on the sword.
Alenia isn’t the only child of the Aventurin family. But it often appears that she is. Her older sister Freya is rarely at home. With her parents’ consent, she was able to pursue her wish to become an adventurer. This, Alenia was faced with the burden of carrying on her family’s legacy.
To outsiders, this behavior may seem selfish. But it wasn’t a burden to Alenia. It made her happy, as she was able to enable her sister to pursue her wish. After all, it was also possible for Alenia to do the same - She worked on her skills every day. She learned how her parents work and everything she was taught, she tries to apply. Setbacks only spurred her on. Through this development of Alenia, it was easy for her parents to fulfill their eldest daughter’s wish.
For Alenia, the craft meant art. She could express her feelings and create something beautiful. Aesthetics became very important to her and she enjoyed creating something that could enhance the overall picture of something. It also made her happy when she could bring a smile to others with her work
Although her parents taught her a lot, it was not nearly enough. For this reason, Alenia should go to Liyue harbor. The city which is known for their knowledge of rocks. There she should learn from a family friend and broaden her horizons.
Alenia had not been aware that this journey would change her entire life. For her, it was the beginning of a journey that would enable her to understand and master her passion even better.
It was a chance encounter that Alenia had at the Wangshu Inn. A simple mix-up. Nothing more. It was something trivial that shouldn't worry Alenia. They are siblings, after all. There's nothing unusual about someone confusing us. Alenia wanted to convince herself with this but the feeling of uneasiness didn’t let her go.
She should return to Liyue Harbor and ask for help. It is the most reasonable, yet she found herself in Qingce Village looking at the water. In her hand is one of the beautiful Glaze Lilies which she gazed at. Alenia set out to find Freya with no experience and no talent. She hoped that her worries were unfounded. But the further she went into the Bishui Plain, the sooner Alenia realized that her recklessness could mean her death sentence. She only made it safely to the village because patrolling Millelith helped her when she was attacked by two Geovishap Hatchlings. But still, after two weeks, Alenia has neither a trace nor a clue to Freya's whereabouts.
Anger. Despair. Fear. Helplessness. For the first time, Alenia had reached the point that she didn’t know what to do. How could she help someone when she herself was dependent on help. Never was she on her own. Never had she needed to pick up a weapon. Never had she done anything she wasn't told to do.
"I never ..."
A bitter laugh escaped her. It bugged Alenia to admit her inability. Her independence was nothing more than an illusion. She was always deprived of the burden of deciding something for herself. It was the first time that she acted out of her own will at all. Of course, she asked the inn to send a message to her hosts in Liyue harbor. Nevertheless, it was a lie to stall for time - a lie that gives one the possibility of not returning for several weeks.
The gentle evening breeze felt refreshing. Only now did Alenia notice that she had tears in her eyes and wiped them away.
"You want to get stronger?"
It was a calm voice addressed to Alenia. The person came out of the shadows and despite the moonlight, Alenia could not make out the face. But she noticed the small box in her hand with a shimmering turquoise gem embedded in it.
"I can help you, if you like."
The breeze caught a single Glaze Lily, which was now guided into the unknown.

“What is this?”
Alenia watched over her shoulder and saw a small figure in the shape of a clover leaf in the hand of the adventurer. When she saw the confused face, she smiled.
“Isn’t it obvious? The clover symbolizes luck. It is a lucky charm that your trip will be blessed with luck.”
When Alenia started as Wagner’s apprentice, she first made these figures for practicing to be successful in her work. She also made them during her night shifts and that was the moment where a customer noticed it.
Alenia felt uncomfortable in the first moment but she gave this figure to the person in front of her and declared it to be her personal good luck charm for him. This is how it started.
Alenia gives every new customer this lucky charm. It is always personalized because she adds a small detail on it which makes the figure unique. Even though she knows that this is more superstition, she would like to hope that this small thing can really bring luck too his owner.
“Thank you Alenia! Maybe I will find the big treasure on my adventure!”
Alenia said goodbye with a smile when he left.
“In that way, you are really the daughter of your father.”
Wagner stood beside her and was forging a blade.
He once told her that Maxwell believed in this kind of thing and that he met Alenia’s mother because he carried a so-called lucky charm. Even if she couldn’t imagine her father like this, Alenia couldn’t deny that the reason why she started this could be because of this.
“Thank you for letting me do that too.”
With these words, Alenia wraps the next small figure to wish the next traveler the best of luck on their journey.
