Reincarnation of an ancient tree, given a second chance after he burned down with his forest. Likes to fight. After a failed quest that got all his travelling companions killed, he returned to the forest for a life of solitude. He'll still raise a weapon to protect those who need it.
From his human rebirth, Methuselah was raised in a heavily religious community. Only once he started travelling around as a priest did he discover that was not what religion was like for most people, and his upbringing was actually pretty culty. After everything that happened on his journey, including meeting a different god than he believed in face to face, he decided god really wasn't all that, and gave up his faith. Methuselah has gotten into more varied forms of magic since returning to a solitary life, and become quite interested in the scientific research behind it. He studies herbs, potionmaking, alchemy, and also enjoys mapmaking. His home in the forest is modest, carefully grown from a cluster of several trees. He has a small personal library, a mix of spellbooks and science texts, and grows or forages all his food. Although rather strict and no-nonsense, he has a kind heart still.
Methuselah can fight with either a staff or a bow, and he's also capable of plant and healing magic. His hands are irreparably burn scarred- the blood on the bandages is usually from his own broken blisters. He got those scars the same day he lost his travelling party, doing everything in his power to save them - including putting his hands directly on a god of fire, the cause of these cursed burns. Methuselah has a terrible fear of fire. He would have died himself that day if not for his self-healing abilities. The survivor's guilt is still with him.
The reason for Methuselah to begin his journey back then was to search for his then-fiance who had gone missing. His fiance had been abducted and forced to work for an organized, nation-wide criminal group, and Methuselah was swept up in a much larger struggle than he expected. It was over a year before he found his fiance again, by which time he had become disillusioned with Methuselah for not coming and rescuing him sooner. They never could reach their previous level of trust again, and never did get married. Miguel was not long-lived like Methuselah, and is long gone by present time.
Methuselah does not remember much from his life as a tree, except that it was "very relaxing."
His "older" design is actually present time, while the younger one is from his journeying days. Don't let his appearance fool you, he's from a modern-day setting- it’s got fantasy and magic and all but also like, indoor plumbing. This man has an electric stove.
Fun fact! Methuselah is one of my oldest active characters, both his age and how long I've had him. And the only changes to his design have been his hair getting longer and his robe getting shorter. I also used to spell his name wrong... on purpose! Because "Methuselah" obviously wasn't unique enough!

Fun fact 2!: He was originally a Chikorita gijinka, and his journeying days are based on my almost-failed HG nuzlocke... almost failed as in he was the last man standing, but I did beat the game with a single OP Meganium
Fun fact 3!: In his previous life, Methuselah was actually a 'female' tree. He has not thought deeply about why he came back as a 'male' human, nor does he mind too much.
