PROFILE

George was born in 1916 and raised in a small apartment in San Francisco. He lived in a kind of impoverished area with his single mom growing up, and since he was the oldest child, oftentimes took care of his little brother and sister while their mom worked. George is a little bit rough around the edges, but he has a good heart. He never really had any plans in life, always just trying to work day by day to take care of everyone. He scarcely ever complained as a young teen; just sort of accepted that this was going to be his lot in life, since his mom was always so busy, and his siblings depended on him. Honestly, the majority of George's life was spent working and surviving each day by the skin of his teeth. Once his little sister was old enough to watch their little brother on her own, George joined the workforce and started to try and support their family.

Later in life, when he was in his mid-20s, he was finally given an opportunity to go to college on top of going to work. He took this opportunity, hoping to learn some kind of trade in order to financially support his family even better. He started studying to become a pharmacist. He didn't enjoy it, but he stuck at it with dedication, all while also near-constantly working night shifts at his job. It was a couple years into this when at 29, he graduated with a bachelors degree, but also fell completely ill from burnout. All his life he'd been working extremely hard without stop, and now that his goal of graduation had been achieved and he had many career prospects in front of him, his body was going to forcibly taking the time it needed to rest.

George was bedridden for some time from this intense exhaustion, and was also treated for depression. Even though it frustrated him to feel useless while he recuperated from all of the work, it was clear that his siblings and mother were really wanting to take care of him. He deserved a break, and they knew it. While he was recovering, sometimes he went into town and went to the movies -- it was one hobby where he could sit down for a while and just rest while also being entertained, and they didnt live too far from the local theater. Soon, this became a regular habit for him whenever he wanted to get out of the house for a while, and he also enjoyed it because it made him remember when he was just a little boy and his mom would take him to the theater on various holidays since it was a rather cheap activity. That was around the time that George realized he'd struck an interest in filmmaking, and another one of his frequent activities became reading books on films at the library in the afternoons. He realized that he pretty much had never had any hobby other than movies, and it brought him significant peace and passion.

Soon, George re-entered the workforce. He got a job as a pharmacist at a local store, and worked there for about 3 years. A lot of the money was put away for the family, but George also began to save for his very first typewriter. Once achieved, boy, did he write. Every time he came home from work, he'd type and smoke cigarettes and type some more until the sun came up. Once again, he channeled that extremely hard working energy until he was once again almost on the brink of burnout. He was working on a script -- now, he finally had a dream of his own in mind. He was still responsible in doing his keep for his family, but he was a man who had never had any goals of his own, and now was going to fight for it tooth and nail.

He took a trip down to Los Angeles and managed to sell the script almost immediately. Hollywood had been waiting for the type of film that George had in mind, because his career skyrocketed so fast, it took everyone by complete surprise -- but no one was more surprised than George. For someone who had little experience in the romantic arena, his first film was a very bold romance that reflected aspects of George's own life. In fact, when it was picked up, it was filmed in San Francisco to reflect some of the areas he had in mind. He didn't direct it, but he was very happy with the way that the film was handled -- and the generous pay that came with being a successful script writer. Sure, he was starting a little late in the game, but already he knew that this was what he was meant to do. Not sitting behind a counter at a pharmacy -- filming! In fact, during the filming of his first movie, he was already working on his next script. Watching the director of this film made him realize that that was something that he could do, too: have complete control over everything being told and shown.

Unlike with Eddie, George's motivations were pretty much solely financial. He liked films, and he thought the work was much more fun than the stuff he initially studied, but mostly, he wanted to be able to boost his family's lot in life and pay for his sibling's way through college, make it so that his mom could retire peacefully. So, he kept writing. The very first movie that he both wrote and directed was a gangster romance, also filmed in San Francisco. It was very gritty but also had a gushy, romantic center that audiences could sink their teeth into.
