Azura

Born to two human parents, Azura's mother had an unknown devil heritage that passed on to their daughter. Her horn nubs start to protrude when she turns 5 years old, completely visible when she turns 6. They tried to keep them hidden with bangs but failed when it grew pass it. 

Her parents start to homeschool Azzy because of her changing appearance to keep her safe from others. Her father starts forming a plan to use up their savings to leave the village. Unfortunately this arouses suspicion from her teachers and neighbors, which eventually led to Alarich's discovery. 

Alarich and his men raid their house. Initially planning to kill the child but changes his mind when she shows a gift in prophecies. They take Azzy away from her parents, placing her under Alarich's care. Her parents were killed as soon as they left the house. Alarich tells her that they couldn't bear to see her anymore, dubbing her their cursed, unwanted child. The last thing she remembers hearing were their loud, sobbing wailing coming from their house.

From that on, Azzy was raised by her caretaker and homeschooled by her tutor. She's not allowed to make friends or see anyone outside the mansion, only visiting the church to do her weekly prayers and watching Father do his job cleansing the sinners of their sins. 

There's a period of time where she's forced to practice inducing her visions, he wants to use her abilities instead of waiting for her to get signs. He uses drugged tea to make her hallucinate vividly and tell him what she sees, predicting specific things like the 3rd storm that week, a lightning bolt will strike the old angel statue in the middle of the village square.

Knowing that Azzy's predictions are accurate 90% of the time, Alarich uses this opportunity to claim it as his own- telling the townsfolk that he was the one making predictions. The people believe in his power and word passes onto the outside world. Claiming himself to be Hadea's new prophet. This lured Wilford's attention and his wife to investigate the town.

By the time she turns 12, her visions start to come with gradually intense migraines. They usually come in her sleep but occasionally happens when she's awake. She journals them in a book filled with drawings to keep track of the messages.

She befriends the lonely, kind librarian who works there. Ramona Keene, a Samaritan. The two bond over their love of stories and since she's spending more time there, Alarich allows it thinking that she's focusing on her studies more. She brings back her books but reads the storybooks Ramona borrows from her at home. Stories about true love, pure love and hope and kindness, none of what Azzy's experienced in her childhood. 

One night, Wilford, Ramona's husband- was captured and planned for execution for being a spy. Trusting Azzy with the notebook of findings and slips it along with the books Azzy's borrowing. It's filled with Wilford's notes and newspaper clippings of humans and devils who are executed, along with her parents. It also holds a very detailed map of the village, with no more than two exits. Azzy realizes that her father lied about it for years. This has led her to start distancing herself from Alarich, and her desire to run away grew over time.

Outraged by her husband's execution, Ramona sets a fire inside the mansion and confronts Alarich out of grief and pain. The fire engulfs the building quickly and Azzy uses this opportunity to run away from home. She escapes the village and hides in the forest for a few days, using Wilford's map to get to the city by foot. Wilford and Ramona work for Mother Mairead and mention her as a safe haven for Devils.

Personality
Quiet, meek and intelligent. She's very artistically skilled and has a kind heart despite all the horrible things that happened to her, even holding some sense of guilt over attacking her adoptive father. Due to her isolation, Azura barely has any social skills. She can be naïve, gullible and easily trusting others. She doesn't have any knowledge of the outside world aside from the stuff she's read from Wilford's notes.

Fun facts

• Her favourite food is chocolate cake, something she doesn't get often. Only given on super special occasions.
• She takes violin lessons from Alarich. It's one of the things that used to be her favourite pastimes with him because he's so calm when they play together.
• Haunted by visions of her father's angry vengeful eyes. She gets nightmares of them so often that she opts not to sleep much after her escape.
• She has birthmarks/stretch marks on her back that look like angel wings. (Maybe they're branded by Alarich when she was christened by him)
