Big--described as a "brick shithouse" more than once. Secondary character in Breath, minor character in Lent part 4, main characer in Risk. Barney's best friend.
Survives the Resonance Cascade and escapes Black Mesa with Maksim with Gordon Freeman's help. After the Seven Hour War, Maksim and James are separated, when they're attacked and James is "voluntold" for Civil Protection. Drinks the water and forgets. Eventually encounters the Freemans with Maksim, and defects to help them escape execution.
Eventually meets back up with Gordon and Barney at White Forest, post-Lent 5.
