Nicholas Eliodoro-Bekker's Links
His long lost son that he forgot he had.
Nicholas feels some semblance of guilty for leaving him with his ex girlfriend, but that doesn't make up for the years of damage that were done. Once Copernicus resigns himself to not having a relationship with Nicholas due to those years of damage, Nicholas does not make an effort to reach out to Copernicus.
He puts Copernicus in contact with his family and gives him some money to start life in the city to help him out, but otherwise he doesn't care enough to try and help him out.
Nicholas often forgets Copernicus exists until he sees him at family reunions, and then he tries his damnedest to avoid him.
He thinks it's weird that Copernicus runs around with his husband's son, though...
His awful, absent father.
After running away from home, Copernicus set out to track down Nicholas, only to realize what a gigantic asshole he was. He could not overlook the fact that Nicholas left him with his mother, when he knew how abusive she was. It also didn't help that Nicholas still didn't want anything to do with Copernicus as an adult.
Copernicus resents the fact that Nicholas was able to settle down and raise a kid and love that kid, but that kid couldn't be him.
Either out of his own guilt or as a show of good will, though, Nicholas gave Copernicus enough money to get situated in the city as well as the information to get in contact with his relatives. As much as he resents his father, Copernicus appreciates this greatly.
The two are out of contact, excluding the awkward conversation the two have at family reunions.
He isn't quite sure how to feel about him now. He spent years building up how he imagined his father to be, and then he turned out entirely different from what he expected. Though Copernicus hesitates to say it out loud, he still longs to form a meaningful connection with his father.
One of the few relatives of his that he trusts to babysit his daughter. Nicholas doesn't know if there's something in the Bekker family genes that makes everyone an absolutely awful person, but, whatever it is, he's glad it didn't seem to affect Calypso as much. He thinks they have a level head on them, and he appreciates that Calypso helped his son figure out the city when he first moved there.
Nicholas is Calypso's weird, skeevy uncle. They have a disdain towards him, after meeting Copernicus and finding out that he abandoned him as a child. But, he does pay well whenever they babysit his daughter, so they try to keep a pleasant relationship with him and not make it obvious that they detest him.
