Profile

still slightly WIP :V

Hushed, unsettling guardian of an occult library in a stone keep, who is actually a knowledge-eating eldritch entity under the guise of a human figure in thick woollen robes.
The guardian listens to the requests of those who wish to peruse the library and determines if they are worthy, informed enough of the dangers to be safe, and mean no harm to the books. Politely turns away those he thinks shouldn't enter, and violently repels those who try regardless. Also functions as an on-site safety measure; the light within him consumes knowledge, and can be used to erase the memories of what cannot usually be unread, should a book prove too heavy a burden for a reader's mind.

Whatever entity the guardian is, presumably they aren't usually as benevolent as he is, but he simply loves books. Summoned decades (or perhaps centuries ago) by the now-deceased sorceror Parafelius, the guardian has continued his duty beyond the bounds of his contract. He can consume the knowledge in books, leaving the pages blank, but instead simply reads them, enjoying the knowledge and the tales for what they are. He's particularly fond of fiction, though the library contains very little of it.

Physically, the guardian is a hollow creature with the shape of a man above and a mass of nine tentacles below. The tentacles are dry and rough like ray skin leather, and his "skin" feels parched and strange. The light that shines from his fingertips is his true self, and can shine from the holes that are his eyes and mouth as well, and he can only "see" what the light illuminates. He can see through the gloves he wears and will "look at you" by pointing his hands in your direction.
