Description///
Merlix is an average size for a puppypillar- he’s tiny and grub shaped! He very active, so it a tad bit leaner than most, but definitely still has that typical grub chub! His bright, cerulean eyes are usually sparkling with an overabundance of energy and mischief. His bat-like ears have no fluff in them, but instead a ribbed texture with blocked off strips of light red, yellow, green, and blue. He has small nub feelers that are almost spherical. They often get obscured by a wavy plume of head hair that is always flopped in his face. His fur is otherwise quite short, save for his fluffy cheeks. His snout is quite long and pronounced for a puppypillar- it will probably be even longer as an adult! He sports two large fangs that protrude quite prominently from his little maw. His coat is a stark white, but is littered with a myriad of markings, which are a combination of red, yellow, green, and dusty blue. His back is littered with similar sized dots, he has tiny freckles on either cheek, tipped paws, tipped feelers, and a few irregular shaped splotches on his face and ears. He almost always wears his cape- a durable fabric with pink and blue zigzag patterns with a colorful, candy-shaped fastener. He’s also known to carry around a Halloween candy bucket which he collects various things in. It often ends up in the corner of his room, with a plant haphazardly stuck inside it with some dirt. Until he accidentally overwaters it and kills it, at which point he’ll carry it around again for a while- and the cycle repeats. |
A Day in the Life///
Merlix wakes up at the crack of dawn- usually arisen by the tiniest bit of light spilling through the window to greet him, but sometimes even before sunrise. On those occasions, he always makes a point to call the sun lazy- in a teasing manner, of course. Like most things, the sun is a buddy of his, after all. If it’s still dark out, he’ll leave a trail of lights on in the house as he makes his morning rounds- sometimes waking up others prematurely (but jeez guys, why are you still asleep???). He inspects Isa’s work area to make sure nothing has gone awry in the night, despite the fact that they have an overnight security guard, Kenji (who, of course, he waves at and says good morning to). Sometimes he’ll have a “security threats” discussion with the guard, who is a sport enough to entertain the child’s very serious attitude about this matter. Then it’s time to get ready for school! Another of his important duties is to wake up Zikkle, the other child living there. Zikkle is aaaalways asleep! Even during the day!! Merlix is certain that if he didn’t wake him up, he never would and would turn into a rock or something. Then it’s brekkie time! Usually a sugary cereal of some sort, but sometimes he’ll try to cook something. Either way, he almost always makes a mess, but is a good good boy that cleans up after himself. This is usually the most time he spends with Zikkle, so of course he rattles his ear off as they eat, sometimes even while they’re brushing their teeth. He says goodbye to whatever residents of the house are awake at that point, then heads to the bus stop with Zikkle. He immediately abandons Zikkle in favor of sitting by more sociable (and awake) kids on the bus. Despite being a bowl of energy, he’s pretty well behaved at school. It’s not as cool as the magic stuff he does with his mentor, but he loves learning anything and is very enthusiastic about it. And he gets to see all of his friends and play a lot! That’s the best part for sure! When he comes back home, he likes to rattle off to whoever will listen (usually Warren) what he learned at school, or perhaps some craaazy thing that happened at recess. He also likes to check in on the garden (season permitting) before going off to find Isa. He asks her every day if he can help with whatever she’s working on, with mixed results. He always gives her his full attention if she decides it’s a day he can help her making potions, harvest ingredients, or some other cool magic-related thing. Sometimes he just gets chores to do, but he enthusiastically does those as well. Sometimes Sprinkle is visiting, which means he gets to hang out with his best buddy, Strawberry! Those are the BEST days- they get up to all kinds of mischief and always have something super engaging to talk about. Otherwise, he’ll just hang out with whoever will have him as the day is winding down. His energy level, which is basically at 100 all day, abruptly takes a sharp turn to 0 and he tends to pass out wherever he is (which is almost never his bed). If it’s in Tangkai’s plush pile, that ends up being his bed that night. Otherwise, one of the various adults in the house will scoop him up and tuck him in. |
Backstory///
Merlix has no parents, no relatives, no family to speak of at all. He came from nothing, has no connections to anything… Well, that’s not entirely true- in a way, one of his parents was a bowl of ice cream! … What? It’s true! You see, one day a witch living in a gnarly old seboia tree decided that she needed someone to help guard the place. It wasn’t just any old tree after all- it was situated atop a priceless, natural flow of magic with unknown properties. The witch had devoted herself to studying it and thus established her home cozily in the tree’s very roots. Now, despite being a wondrous resource that needed protection at all costs, the magic well could be a bit of an unstable handful! One thing the witch discovered was its funny habit of sometimes magically transporting strangers smack dab in the middle of her living room. This was never not annoying, but also quite dangerous. They might want to take the magic well away from the witch, or hurt her! What does this have to do with ice cream? We’re getting there. The witch was thankfully able to recruit one of these strangers as a bodyguard of sorts- a large, simple minded reptilian creature. However much of a boon this was, the witch wanted to have someone she could trust completely, someone of her own creation. Thus, she scraped out her cauldron and gathered her reagents. Pwas fur, rabisu claws, and a mysterious orb- these were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect little guardian. However, the witch’s clumsy little assistant accidentally bumped his master’s delicious bowl of Vanilla Ice Cream With Sprinkles into the concoction mid-brew. And thus, a vanilla pup with sprinkle-colored markings was born! Brewed? Well, came in to existence, at any rate. The witch introduced herself as Isa and the infant puppypillar imprinted on her immediately. Due to his unconventional “birth,” Merlix grew at an accelerated rate. Isa shouldered much of the child rearing responsibility off to the large reptilian creature (Zarita) and clumsy assistant (Ferero). Not one of them had any business raising a baby, but they managed to keep him alive somehow. Despite her enormous size, Zarita was surprisingly gentle when handling the tiny bundle with her massive claws and tail. She and Ferero were both quite vigilant during his more fragile months of life, as opposed to Isa’s cavalier attitude. Despite her being more rough and careless with him (or, perhaps, because of?), Merlix most prominently bonded to Isa. Due to his rapid growth, he was quickly able to grow beyond a dependent baby and into a bright and capable little child. His idolization of Isa meant that he followed her everywhere- at first to her annoyance, but soon to her benefit. He analyzed and mimicked her at every turn, including taking great interest in her magical pursuits. He was ecstatic when Isa gradually allowed him to participate in her work. Eventually, he was thrilled to all but replace her current assistant, and nearly exploded with joy when she started referring to him as her apprentice. He may have been originally intended to be a guardian, but Isa was more than pleased with this different outcome. Who knew ice cream was such a good ingredient for a perfect little assistant? |
