Naoise (NEE-shuh)

friendly • stubborn • energetic • naïve

Overview

Very friendly and always happy to help another, but can be rather stubborn when he’s set his mind on something. A little too trusting, he wants to make a good impression and is extremely friendly to all he encounters. To Naoise, everyone is either a friend or has the potential to become his friend.

He is currently looking for a Winter Sidhe named Julius, someone he was best friends with back in Tír na nÓg. The last thing Naoise knows is that his friend was sent on a mission, never returned, and is unable to be contacted in any way. Worried for his safety, Naoise decided to find Julius himself.

Entering Hadreon through one of the waygates, he’ll explore the entire world if he must and won’t stop until he’s accomplished what he came here for. He's made many friends and allies in his time here, and even those who are wary of his presence he does his best to dissuade their uncertainty. After all, it does no good to make enemies rather than allies in a place as strange to him as Hadreon.

I believe that everyone needs to have a friend. I know how happy it makes me, and I want everyone to also feel that happiness!

Demeanor

Quirks & habits

He has a tendancy to speak very quickly, not always realizing that his words are not quite making sense. It's especially difficult when he's speaking in the common tongue rather than his people's language of Sylvan.

When he is needing to stay quiet, or is otherwise unable to do much of anything for that time, he tends to bounce in place. It's impossible for him to stay entirely still.

Either during downtime or at the end of his day, he'll write letters to friends whether they be in his homeland or within Hadreon, telling them about what he's been doing. It's his way of showing he's still thinking of them even while away. If there's little to write about, he'll find things he noticed to jot down, or ask how they're doing regardless of if he'll ever get a response to his questions.

Communication skills

Tending towards being extremely excitable and loud, it's not difficult to know when Naoise is around. He could talk one's ear off for years if given the opportunity with stories or observations or simply whatever happens to pop into his mind at the time.

Although he doesn't intend to be rude, he does come off as rather intense and arguementative when it comes to things he feels knowledgable about. If someone is wrong, or at least he perceives them to be, he will not hesitate to try and correct this.

While he will deflect with how he answers a question, he will never tell a lie to a person even if it would be more benificial to do so. He believes that friends should never lie to one another.

Showing affection

He prefers showing affection through words of affirmation, telling those he cares about how amazing he believes them to be and always quick to point out something they did that he thought was extraordinary. He'll jump at any opportunity to put in a good word (or thousand) about his friends.

Sharing things he finds interesting or exciting is another way he shows his affection. It's not uncommon for him to randomly give gifts of whatever he may have found that day, thinking that since it made him happy to have that it will also make his friends happy as well.

Physical affection such as hugs or holding hands is something he isn't very fond of but will accept if it comes from those he cares for. He'll rarely, if ever, initiate physical contact of any kind, reserving it for a tiny handful of those he considers his closest friends. Even in these cases they usually still have to show intention or a want for it first before he reciprocates.

Other Behaviors

His cheerful demeanor is an active choice, and one he tries his best to maintain even if it's difficult at times.

Naoise refuses to harm another if they've done no percieved wrong. He will do all he can to rectify things if he accidentally hurts someone who was innocent. On the flipside, he is fiercely protective of his friends and will show no mercy to anyone who brings harm to them, as long as the one who did harm is shown to be unrepentant.

Life in Tír na nÓg

  • Is well known by most Summer Sidhe, and a fair number of Winter Sidhe.
  • Caught Aislinn's attention when he asked for a second job.
  • Tells exclusively stories he's done his best to verify are factual when orating.

He's always been known by the other Sidhe in Tír na nÓg to be extremely friendly, to be one who considers everyone either a friend or a potential friend. He's also known to be helpful, at least, he tries to be helpful. Although he tends to stumble at times, his stubborn nature keeps him from giving up even if it would be the easier option. His reputation is primarily within the Summerlands where he lives, but many within the Winterlands are also aware of him whether they want to be or not.

After his rebirth into this current life, he was granted the job of a guide within the Summerlands, but given his penchant to being an overachiever, after about a century he asked permission to take on another job as an Orator in addition to his first job. This request was hesitantly granted, mostly due to his earnestness. In addition to his two jobs, he also spent much of his time training with Aislinn, one of the nobles of the Summer Court, due to his strong magical affinity.

When not kept busy with work or training, spending time with friends was his top priority. He didn't like being alone, so it was extremely rare to see him without at least one friend. One specific Winter Sidhe, Julius, was Naoise's favorite friend to be around. It was okay that Julius was rough around the edges... and everywhere else, for that matter. It was okay that Julius didn't like to talk, that he was grumpy and mean sometimes. Naoise was determined to be his friend despite all of this, especially since it seemed that it was Naoise alone had any desire for friendship with him. It was clear that this Winter Sidhe was far lonelier than he ever would admit, and Naoise would not let this be. Everyone deserved to have at least one friend, and this was a task he would always be happy to step up to.

47279784_7k921nZ1hhReSo4.png Eventually there came a time when things began to change within Tír na nÓg, within both Summer and Winter. Waygates to a strange place called Hadreon seemed to have been discovered and opened, a connection and way to leave Tír na nÓg was suddenly now available. This was of no concern to Naoise, however, and he had no desire to leave. He was more than content to stay where most of his best friends were, and to do what he could to be helpful and kind in his home where he was needed... that is, until Julius was send on a mission to Hadreon and never returned.

At first Naoise tried to be patient, but that didn't last for very long before he decided to ask permission to go and search for him. With his leave granted and goodbyes said to many of his friends, off to Hadreon he went in search of his very best friend.

Stranger in a Strange Land

  • Stayed primarily within Elara during the first few years of living in Hadreon.
  • Taught magic to the best of his abilities to some of the children of his host family, much to the parents' chagrin.
  • Discovered that he loves cats.

He was ill prepared for what ended up being a severe culture shock. Everything was so strange and alien to him, especially those who inhabited this world. Their ways were odd, made even odder as he could barely understand their language outside of the very basics. He wandered for a long while, staying positive, but this was not the easy trip he'd expected. Eventually he happened upon a small farm owned by an Ikaian family. Although he wore a confident smile, it was easy to see he was rather lost. Through what little communication they could manage, they decided to take him in for a time as long as he helped out around the farm, something he was more than happy to do.

52145540_wi1D6MY3YeDKlGq.png?1658025748 For three years he stayed with them, learning their language and the common tongue more fluently, as well as how the world worked and the things that were expected of him while he lived upon it. It was very difficult but he took every challenge in stride. To say he did everything well would be a lie, but he was at least very earnest in his attempts.

Towards the end of the third year is when he heard whisperings of activity in Tomra, something potentially related to Naoise's folk, but for good or for ill was left uncertain to Naoise. Regardless, this he took as a potential next step in finding his lost friend as it was the most he'd learned since coming to Hadreon.

With this bit of information and rekindled hope on his side, as well as a better understanding of the world thanks to his time with the kindly family who'd taken him in, it was time for more goodbyes. With promises to write to them as often as he was able, he left the Ikaian family and headed north. Tomra was his next destination. It was Tomra where he was certain he would find Julius, and if nothing else, it was where his next adventure would be.

Exploring Tomra

  • Is currently traveling with a group of three others.
  • Discovered more about the war between the Drakon and the Sidhe.
  • Finally got in contact with Julius, but is still unable to figure out where he is.

Traveling with a caravan northbound to Tomra, Naoise grew friendly with some of the other people traveling along with him. There were three in particular he grew to especially like: Archibald, a peculiar Summer Sidhe; Iris, a skilled Crystal Drakon; and Tara, a mysterious alchemist.

Although he did not find himself fortunate in regards to his missing friend, he found himself making new friends in these strange and interesting places. He also found opportunity to help in these places still struggling with the effects of an all too recent war. In addition to this, he discovered that there was some forgotten history buried deep in the world of his people, and some knowledge above the surface that seemed only unknown to him.

Eventually, he found himself in a place that was strange even to Hadreon within the northern edge of Tomra. The Glass Wastes held many secrets that even the 'gods' of this world were unwilling to speak of. It was within these crystal-like lands that Naoise's friend Archibald was struck down, his soul sent back to their homeland of Tír na nÓg. Despite the sudden loss of his friend, Naoise was undeterred, and still had hope that they could succeed in their plans to find and repair an airship so they could seek more answers in the Archives of Saranda, far south of where they currently found themselves.

43944612_IxtHpzgOta0eYIg.png Although Naoise had lost one friend, suddenly he gained two: Deidra, a Winter Sidhe who was followed by a goat familiar named Duchess. It appeared as though their goal was even more attainable than ever, and it would only be a matter of time before they would find themselves soaring to new experiences and answers.

It was during this time that Naoise made a breakthrough: he had managed to get a message through to Julius after many attempts, and even heard back! Unfortunately, he was no closer to actually finding his friend, as even Julius was unsure of where he was. This didn't matter to Naoise, though. He was simply happy to know his friend was okay.

At Journey's End

  • Gained conflicting information in regards to the Sidhe Courts and where their morality truely lies.
  • Reunited with Julius after years of searching.
  • Helped his friends retrieve a Sidhe Arkship.

Continuing their journey through the Glass Wastes of Tomra, Naoise and his group finally came across what they had been searching for: three airships (or, rather, arkships) once used in the war between the Sidhe and the Drakon, but now to be used for more... helpful purposes. In addition, Julius finally found his way to Naoise after some mishaps while teleporting.

46524867_rPeqZPjpfY5oU0N.png With little trouble, the group found a way to get inside the ship. It was quickly apparent that there were evil creatures lurking around every corner. Hiding in the darkness was something else too: a lone Sidhe named Fiona, one who had escaped the corruption that had taken hold of all the others. With a new ally who was knowledgable about where everything was on the ship, the group set about clearing out the corrupted ones who were scattered throughout.

Soon they had only one target left. The captain, Hyperion, was unwilling to let them take the arkship without a fight, but the brave adventurers soon enough took them out, freeing Hyperion from their corruption, as well as the many Sidhe souls they appeared to have consumed.

Taking a couple of extra weeks to both ensure the ship was safe from other corrupted Sidhe, as well as figuring out how to even fly it, eventually Julius was ready to go home and urged Naoise to come with him. Begrudgingly agreeing, helped by Deidra who gave him the task of checking on her obsidian goats back home, Naoise and Julius teleported to the archway that connected Hadreon to Tír na nÓg.

It was official. Naoise had completed his mission, finding his very best friend Julius. Although happy to return home, he would never forget the many friends he had made while in Hadreon.

Tiarnán seems very nice! Naoise enjoyed the short time he'd been able to speak with him, and hopes that they'll be able to meet again in the future! He intends to find glitter to share with him that Tiarnán won't be 'allergic' to.
