御倉 || Mikura

“At most I can tell you that you won’t get last place” Mikura sat cross-legged on a broken pillar.

“...” I stared at him, head cranked up.

“Hey, don’t look at me like that, you didn’t study until yesterday, of course you’re not gonna do good for the exam tomorrow” Mikura plopped on his side, his ears drooping to the side.

Mikura is a fox guardian (who sometimes answers people’s wishes) at a shrine near the outskirts of the town. It’s not exactly somewhere most people would go to, since it looks quite… abandoned. The master of the shrine left some time ago and Mikura was there the entire time, waiting for him to come back. But, as all tragic stories are told, he never did.

It wasn’t till Kanade went to this run-down shrine that Mikura finally found his courage to hunt again. That’s right, Mikura and his master were a hunter duo who preyed on lost souls. Not exactly the best-minded shrine protectors, but this is how it goes in this shrine - the world will abandon you to save the greater good, but I will slaughter the world to save you from your sins.

I pray at this shrine, not because I’m some sort of heartless and evil person who doesn’t care about others, but because I know Mikura just wants to survive now that he has found a new master to hunt with. Afterall, if everyone forgets about this shrine, everything with it will disappear, so as long as I can, I will get more people to visit this shrine. Not for a favour of anyone in particular, but just so I can be of a use to this world.
