story

part one

carlisle grows up in a wealthy family with two successful parents who always seem to love him more than they do his older sister, remy. they have high hopes for him. big dreams. his interest in film production is of little importance to them: he's bright enough for law school, so when it comes to his education after high school, that's only thing they're willing to finance.

part two

carlisle has no interest in law. he has no interest in any part of the future his parents want for him. he acts out in small ways: pierces his eyebrow, comes home one day with wings tattooed down his back. remy has already left home - disowned their parents and made her own future. he can do the same.

his plans change when he falls in love with dawn, the new girl in his film class. dawn's future feels rocky. she has no plans to go to college. highly depressed after the death of her best friend, she hasn't thought any further ahead than maintaining her job at the beach's snack counter. he wants more for her. for both of them. his desire for stability wins out against his desire to pursue a career in film, and he accepts his parents' offer to fund his education.

now working as a lawyer, carlisle has been living with dawn for nearly seven years. they haven't been happy for months, possibly years, but he pushes the thought away every time. just because she's never around doesn't mean anything. just because she never talks doesn't mean anything. she'll come around. she'll come around. she'll come around. she'll -
