Sam is a little nervous around people he doesn't know-- preferring the company of his own thoughts or Eden. He spends a lot of his time swimming at the beach or skateboarding. When he is stuck inside, he likes to take care of his beloved pet turtle, Henry, or listen to Eden talk about anything she wants to talk about. Because of everything that he's seen while "slipping," he has always had a air of maturity that makes it harder for him to connect with other people his age.

They are an adept problem solver and quick thinker, having been put in situations that most people couldn't possibly have dreamed of. They are usually the first to adapt to a new situation, and find a solution to the problem at hand. Despite this, Sam is a strong "pack animal." He is inoffensive, conciliatory, and passive. Without others around him, he is relatively unambitious, as he is largely motivated by the wish to help others around him.

Sam continues to learn a lot, not only about his powers, but of himself, through his conversations with Ever, a planewalker with the ability to walk through different worlds and timelines. Both found themselves isolated by their abilities, and so Ever and Sam speak together when Sam is asleep. Ever acts as a mentor figure for Sam, giving them perspective no-one else can about the nature of their ability.

Early Childhood

Soon after Sam was born, his mother put him up for adoption. They never knew quite why. After all, it wasn't like they got a letter or anything lke that. Nothing about the choice had such fanfare. All that Sam knew was that their mother was from Peru. Although, Sam never had much reason to look past the life they were given. Their parents, the Hirsch family, were a welcoming family. They took good care of him, even if they never quite understood him. When they were about 5 years old, the Walker family moved in next door, and Sam immediately clicked with them. Sam immediately clicked with Eden, the witty, energetic, multi-talented sister his age, but also grew close with June, the quiet tech wiz. According to a few embarrassing anecdotes from the group's families, Sam was always often prone to fits of crying, and would often be dragged around by Eden, hand in hand.

Powers Grow: Early Teens

Sam spent much of their young life perplexed by their visions. Assuming their occassional, unobstrusive daydreams to be a normal aspect of life-- Sam often found them a fun source of entertainment. However, after the age of 10, occassional daydreams multiplied until multiple would pile up in a single day, some of them uncontrollable hours-long ventures into other universes. At this point, the Hirsch family felt more and more disconnected from their child. The relationship between them grew more and more tense when Sam came out as trans, as the Hirsch family "wasn't sure how to keep up." As things grew more strained between Sam and their parents, they grew closer and closer to the Walker family.

Past, Present, and Future

As Sam grew older, a new change was made to his powers-- his visions sometimes would present situations that were soon to occur, or had already happened while Sam was not there. This power showed him visions of a woman with similar pink hair to his own, speaking with the Walker family. When this woman suddenly appears back in their life, they realize the identity of their birth mother: a woman named Sivaan Patiño, who was close friends with the Walker family before their birth.

Sivaan's entrance in their life makes the relationship between the groups more complex, as they attempt to navigate Sivaan's complicated past relationships with the Walker family, and Sam themself.
