Profile

Basics:

  • Character name: Sam Hirsch
  • Age: 19
  • Gender: Transmasc nonbinary - He/they
  • Species: Human
  • Vocation: Works at the Redriver Café.

Personality:

  • At a glance: Sam comes across as an unassuming guy, if just a little mature for his age. They can be a little quiet and spacey, but they have a sense of earnest kindness that lets you know they care. He can be a little flakey and hard to pin down, and tends to keep secrets. Enjoys the company of others as much as himself, and is selfless to a T.
  • personality strengths: Adaptable/ quick thinker, intuitive, rational, selfless, helpful
  • personality flaws: Dishonest, passive, dependent, conformist, uncharismatic, unambitious, a little too blasé about their personal safety

Abilities:

  • (More specifics and mechanics in the “In Depth” section)
  • Can “slip” into other timelines, temporarily dissociating into another reality. Has no control over when these slips happen- even during conversation or tasks. These can be fun jaunts through an interesting world, or a terrifying view into a much worse one. As a result, Sam has a sense of maturity and perspective that few do, having seen thousands of scenarios and realities different from our own. Sometimes, these can provide visions into the future-- but it’s impossible to tell whether they represent this timeline or another, until the event transpires. If Sam sees a poor future, especially something that would threaten the safety of someone else, he will attempt to avoid that fate.
  • Using this power puts Sam in a temporary powerless, vulnerable state, and Sam can experience any number of side effects before and after, including: unease, nausea, vertigo, headache, and vomiting.

(With this, I hope that his visions will be a spark for story, and in *no way* dictate the actions of other characters. People can choose freely whether or not they follow Sam’s prophecies)

History:

  • Origin: Sam was adopted by the kind Hirsch family at a young age, after his mother put him up for adoption.
  • Past: Sam grew up in a small, seaside town, developing a love for nature and outdoor sports, especially swimming and skateboarding. After high school, went to college, but dropped out after the high population density and stress of school caused his “slipping” episodes to increase dramatically.
  • Present: After dropping out of college, Sam has decided to seek a new start to his life, and has moved to Waycrest. Currently scraping by through working at the Redriver café, living as cheaply as he can.

Trivia:

  • - Mother is Peruvian
  • - Knows ASL & speaks a little bit of (poor) Spanish from High School.

Interests/Hobbies/Ideas for scenes.

  • Feel free to utilize any number of these things for ideas for scenes:
  • Loves swimming at the lake
  • Loves skateboarding.
  • Works at the Redriver café.
  • Lives in rowhouse lane.

More detail on his powers:

These visions can range from entertaining to terrifying and traumatic. There are near infinite permutations of our world that he could step into, from a setting where he’s playing video games with a friend, to a literal zombie apocalypse. He has probably experienced his own death before within one of these “slips,” and as a result, is dubious that a death in this world will mean a true death for his soul. As a result, he’s a little too ready to risk his safety for someone else’s

Proficiencies:

Sam is used to being landed in a strange situation and making do-- sometimes these timelines are strange, apocalyptic, or dangerous. As a result, he’s developed good intuition, is quite good at noticing details, and is an overall quick thinker and problem solver.

Weaknesses:

Sam is inherently weaker when he’s slipping. He noticeably “dissociates” while he’s slipping, which can go for a very short amount of time, or a longer one, depending on the intensity of the slip. It would take something special to snap him out of that dissociative state (probably supernatural) leaving him vulnerable to attack, as he can’t really feel anything that’s happening to him until he returns. The period before and after a slip are sometimes, but not always, uncomfortable. Side effects can range from unease, nausea, vertigo, headache, and vomiting. Often, Sam will experience these side effects and silently try to exit whatever conversation he’s in. I imagine that keeping their soul tethered to this time and place requires some energy-- drugs or alcohol, and anything else that would alter his state can make his powers flare up.Doesn’t have any physical superpowers, healing abilities. Other than the psychic stuff is a normal dude.
