ABOUT

"Jeez, grown ups are so quick to anger..."

A young Inazuman adventurer who claims to be in cahoots with hilichurls even though it's pretty obvious he's the most annoying thing they've ever laid their eyes on, there is no creature quite like Nezumi. A chaotic soul who loves to entertain and cause problems for others, he is somehow both funny and adorable alongside being a nuisance to the people of Teyvat. Often dubbed a rat or a menace, Nezumi's mischievous streak doesn't overshadow the fact that, deep down, he's a good-hearted kid. Despite being a troublemaker, Nezumi finds joy in making others happy whenever he can. While he might not understand empathy or complex emotional topics, he genuinely cares for others, even extending his kindness to strangers when he isn't busy being a fool. Though he can be a bother, Nezumi knows when it's time to be serious and rein in his antics. Beneath his chaotic exterior, there lies a kid who, despite his quirks, is truly just trying his best to always brighten the world around him.

DESIGN

  • his hair I call a rat tail but its more just like a stupidly uneven/weirdly cut mullet. he cuts it himself and refuses to let anyone else do it.
  • super short. like 5'0. his weapon is bigger than him.
  • his top two canines are super sharp and stick out of his mouth sometimes!
  • pointy ears can adjust and move slightly at will :3

BACKGROUND

EARLY LIFE

Before Nezumi was old enough to remember, his parents were travelling to Inazuma; they had set up camp and left their young son asleep while they went to find food. However, they were attacked and brutally murdered, leaving Nezumi alone- an unknown amount of time later, their abandoned camp was ransacked by hilichurls, who came across the infant. Despite not being usually known for their compassion, the hilichurls took Nezumi in and raised him as one of their own. They always knew that one day he would become too much for them, but they kept him for as long as they could. They taught him to speak hilichurl, how to walk, how to think- but Nezumi eventually outgrew them and began to wander outside of their territory and spy on the humans bustling about in nearby villages. Curious, he would watch before returning to his hilichurl family, though he spent more and more time around humans, learning to speak their tongue and stealing from them what he could.

CURRENT

Though not necessarily a teenager, what marks the difference inbetween Nezumi's childhood and current life is meeting Kogarashi Shizuo, a deity of Watatsumi. Suddenly, for the first time, he had a 'human' friend, and became attached to the white tiger god, constantly following him around and not leaving him alone. Eventually, he left his hilichurl family to officially live with (and annoy) Shizou. At some point along the way, he even began to call him dad. From there, Nezumi's horizons began to open, meeting new people and going to new places, finding the lost deity of Good Karma, Feng, making friends with so many new people... had it not been for the god finding him, perhaps his life would be different. Nowdays, he still spends a lot of time annoying Shizou, though it is definitely out of love for his father figure, and traveling across all of Inazuma and visiting various places in Teyvat.

RELATIONSHIPS

Without a shadow of a doubt, Shizou is the reason Nezumi is the person he is today. Had it not been for their first meeting, the two might be in completely different places in life. But fate has a way of making things as they ought to be, and despite the various tragedies and awful circumstances they have individually been through, they have each other now. In fact, Shizou is more than just a deity to Nezumi - he's his father figure too, enough of such that Nezumi even calls him his dad. Maybe Shizou gets annoyed with Nezumi all too easily because of his troublemaking behavior, and maybe Nezumi hates having to follow the rules and getting punished for his bad actions, but they need one another whether they realize it or not. For quite a while, Nezumi never left Shizou's side; even though he is able to do that now and travel the world, he still always returns, because he loves his dad more than anything else in all of Teyvat.

It is pretty often that you will find the deity of Good Karma hanging out around Nezumi, whether that be in her cat spirit form or human form. This is not only because they are good friends, or that Nezumi found her and saved her life, but also because they are connected- platonic soulmates, if you will. It was as if the two were destined to meet- and for good reason too, as they get along like a house on fire. Mischievous and troublesome in her own right, Feng tends to egg Nezumi on, and together they love to spread chaos and have fun. But they also confide in one another, and Nezumi helped Feng remember her past and reconnect with her brother. In turn, Feng is extremely protective of Nezumi, and always willing to get him out of trouble. She is almost exclusively found at his side. Their bond is special and unmatched and, perhaps, even fated in the stars.

Arashi calls Nezumi his enemy- maybe that is true, to an extent, but Nezumi will never see it like that. He has a sworn duty to annoy the shit out of Arashi, though it is certainly out of fondness for the dog rather than any real malice. As Arashi is Shizou's mentee, they were bound to meet at some point. It just so happens that Nezumi has found that he loves to get a big dramatic reaction out of Arashi, that's all. There is no bone in his body that could genuinely hate him, especially not someone Shizou has any positive emotion toward. Besides, he sees Arashi as a genuinely good guy, and sometimes when it's just the two of them, he listens to Arashi's troubles. Though he isn't sure how to help, he will always be there for him. Despite Arashi's bitterness toward him, Nezumi knows that they are friends.

It's only normal that because Nezha loves to annoy Arashi just as much as Nezumi does that they would get along so well. However, it's pretty obvious to Nezumi that Nezha has a deep love for Arashi that he has never really seen in anyone else. Although not in tune with emotions or what they mean, he knows what to care for someone else looks like, and despite everything, it's pretty evident that Nezha would do anything for his boyfriend, even if would complain the entire time about it. Outside of Arashi, the two get along very well. It seems that Nezumi attracts troublemakers much like himself, as Nezha encourages Nezumi's antics whenever they are together. Nezha, alongside Arashi (with Jin tagging along too) is often a babysitter for Nezumi, though he is anything but responsible. Nezumi really likes Nezha, and even thinks of him as some what of an older brother figure and role model!

If Nezha is "dumb," Jin is "dumber," to simply put it. And for Nezumi, that means even more people to advocate for his shenanigans. Though he doesn't see Jin that often on account of him roaming the seas on his pirate ship, he likes him, even going so far as to consider him a part of his family. Jin has always been kind to him, even giving him piggyback rides and letting him go on his ship sometimes! Nezumi wishes that they got to hang out more often, because Jin is just as much fun as Nezha is- meaning that when they are together, the three of them are an unstoppable chaos tornado that goes around pulling pranks and annoying the shit out of Arashi.

Claw is Feng's twin brother, the deity of Bad Karma. Long ago, Feng locked him away to 'learn his lesson,' as the karmic debt that accumulated was too much for him and he became evil. Now, however, after Feng and Nezumi finding him centuries later, he has healed and learned his lesson- he has a sharp tongue and a bitter demeanor, but he isn't all that bad. He apologizes to his sister a lot, as he feels bad for what she had to go through. He and Nezumi don't interact all THAT much, on occasion he will hang around to talk to Feng though. Nezumi is very glad that they are getting along and seem to be at peace.

Nezumi and Koito actually met when Nezumi was still living with the hilichurls. A simple encounter before Koito moved to Natlan, where he gave Nezumi some bread for free. Though the interaction wasn't much, Nezumi did not forget it, and years later, after Koito had returned to Inazuma with some memory loss, Nezumi was quick to jump to make friends with him now that he spoke the language of the humans. Nezumi thinks of Koito as somewhat of a brother figure, and wants to help him find his passion and the reason he got a vision at all.

OTHER

LIKES

  • instigating fights with both monsters and humans
  • hilichurls!
  • outsmarting adults
  • sneaking around and causing problems for everyone

DISLIKES

  • being told what he can and can't do - rules are meant to be broken, to him
  • when he is picked up from behind and held like a kitten by the scruff
  • having to sit still for any length of time
  • vegetables... especially broccoli. he's one of THOSE kids

TRIVIA

  • Nezumi's vision was gifted to him at a pretty young age, for something rather mundane. Still living with the hilichurls, he protected a few of the younger ones from Nobushi samurai who tried messing with them, fending them off by being a total terror. When he returned to their side they happily thanked him, and dug in his pocket and found the vision there, warm.
  • His constellation is called Parum bestia, meaning Little Beast- very appropriate for the gremlin that he is. He is a five-star claymore user, with his signature weapon called "Mitachurl's Stormbringer," which resembles the giant axes that electro infused mitachurls have.
  • Nezumi's name quite literally means rat. It comes from one of the many names shopkeepers would yell at him when he would steal their stuff when still living with the hilichurls. They don't really have names in the same way humans do, so upon meeting Shizou, he didn't know what else to call himself other than what people did call him- rat, thief, beast, gremlin...
  • Nezumi doesn't really have a 'canon' age? He's young, but I leave it up for interpretation and the circumstances. It's anywhere from 10 to 15 depending.
  • His voice claim is the japanese voice of Ranpo at 14, from Bungou Stray Dogs! He really fits Nezumi in general.
