Keiko is nobody's friend. She makes sure of it. She doesn't like getting  involved with others or busying herself with personal drama. She's  certainly not a bad person, but she does prefer to keep to herself.
That  doesn't mean she doesn't step up where she's needed, of course. Every  class trial throws her into the forefront of leadership, and it's often  up to her and her sisters to keep everyone from meeting a gruesome  demise.
She does have a soft side, but she doesn't like showing  it. She greatly prefers that everyone views her as infalliable- unemotional, always correct, reliable. The truth is that she's horribly  insecure, but she'd never let that slip. She has expectations to meet,  after all.

Backstory

Keiko grew up in a rather troubled household in the Aomori prefecture.  Although she had relatively good relationships with both her sisters,  Nori and Sumireko, her parents were constantly fighting over the future  they wanted their children to have. Her mother demanded that all their   children go into careers of law, as she had, whilst her father wanted  them to learn about the sciences of death, as he had. They divorced when Keiko was only 12 years old. Her mother took  Sumireko and Keiko and moved all the way to the Miyazaki prefecture,  while her father stayed with Nori in Aomori, as Nori had flat-out  refused to go with her mother. In Miyazaki, the girls' mother  immediately set Sumireko and Keiko upon studying law- a rule which  Keiko abided by. She did her damnedest to be everything her mother wanted her to be, and soon enough, it was less about expectations and  more about making a name for herself. Even when her relationship with  Nori deteriorated and she was forced to watch Sumireko become othered  due to her disinterest in law, Keiko closed herself off and kept  studying. After all, she was convinced that she could do nothing; she  was needed elsewhere.
Needless to say, Keiko became her mother's  favorite child. She was shipped off to law school after law school,  always burdened with work- all to make the best judge there ever was. Whether or not she's happy with the path she took is not clear.
