Daniel Santos (ダニエル・サントス, Danieru Santosu?), also known as Sun Star Hero: Ilu-Ayê (サンスターヒーロー・イルアイエー, San Sutā Hīrō: Iru Aiē?) is a fan character for the My Hero Academia manga and anime series by Kohei Horikoshi. In this headcanon, he studies in Class 1-A at U.A. High School, training to become a Pro Hero.

Daniel is described by Mina Ashido as a chocolate-skinned boy. He has brown eyes and spiky short dark hair, mixed with small shades of gray. He is one of the shortest boys in class 1-A, but has relatively larger hands than his classmates.
After gaining powers with his quirk, he started training his body by practicing physical exercises and some basic martial arts moves, such as boxing and capoeira. As a result, his body became leaner and more muscular. He gained some more muscle after intensifying his training with the help of Eijiro Kirishima. He is not as muscular as Midoriya or Kirishima himself. But he has a great physique for his age.
When his quirk activates, his appearance changes. His hair becomes whiter, almost gray, and his eyes turn yellow, with black and yellow irises.
Regarding his hero costume, it gained different versions throughout his course. The first one was a simple black and yellow jumpsuit with shoulder pads that had solar cells, which helped Daniel in combat. In his second suit, he got a new look, keeping the previous colors, but getting new gadgets, such as a utility belt, gauntlets, high boots, and thermal gloves. This all made it possible for him to remain combatant in the winter, when the sun appears with less strength and makes Daniel weaker.

Daniel is smart and affectionate, always putting others before himself. His main characteristic is empathy. He is very supportive and cares a lot about the well-being of the surrounding people, especially if they are going through a tough time. He supports them with comforting words, as well as highlighting what makes them special. Momo Yaoyorozu describes him as someone who will be open and willing to help and care for those who are sad. Because of this, he is considered a trusted friend by his classmates and he is also recognized by the other classes.
He is passionate about world history, imagining what life was like before the era of the Quirks and the Heroes, and researching the old facts. With this came an affection for dinosaurs, which made him write several notes describing characteristics of various species and the environment of the Jurassic era, according to the movies and documentaries depicting this era since he was a child during his elementary school years. This interest would later be shared with Class 1-B student Setsuna Tokage. He also loves music, so much so that he chose the title of an old Brazilian song as his Hero name. And he wrote his feelings about the verses of that song to justify his choice. He also has several lyrics mounted on the wall of his dorm in the 1-A's Height Alliance. Besides writing some parodies as a hobby. But this is a secret that nobody knows.
He is sociable and tends to allow anyone to call him by his first name. His friends call him affectionately by the nickname "Dani". However, teachers and the Mr. Principal, besides other important people still formally call him Santosu. Although he shows a fascination for the things of the past, he also shows that he knows a lot about the most modern issues. This makes him a good person to talk to, either to chat or to get something off one's chest. He likes to spend time with his friends and hang out when possible. But sometimes he prefers to be alone, relaxing by listening to his favorite music or watching movies.
Daniel is ready to fight and risk himself for his friends when necessary. After all, this is what he believes is the essence of a hero. After Tsuyu Asui confronted the other colleagues about rescuing Katsuki Bakugo after the Vanguard Action Squad Invasion, stating that acting on their emotions and breaking the law to rescue him essentially made them equal to villains, Daniel disagreed with her saying that it is not the rules that separate heroes from villains. In his opinion, the difference between heroes and villains is that heroes care about others. He says that each of his friends has his own motivations for becoming a hero. In all of them, there are people they care about. And he uses examples of his friends Ochaco Uraraka (she wants to be a hero to earn money and help her parents), Tenya Ida (to follow in her brother's footsteps), and Izuku Midoriya (to save people) to make his point. This is because, according to him, they care about the people they love. He ends up questioning to the others how someone can be a true hero if they are not willing to save their friends. He defends what he believes in, even if it goes against the thinking of his fellows.
Despite showing maturity and motivating his friends, Daniel is also prone to moments of uncertainty, doubting his own ability. Sometimes he shows sign of low self-confidence, feeling smaller than his classmates. This is noted when he does not consider himself a leader or prepared to follow this role, confessing that there are people better than him, even though he has proven otherwise on multiple occasions. There were times he also doubted that he can become a hero, with some fear of having to return prematurely to his home country. According to Snipe, Daniel also suffers from an anxiety crisis.
Daniel has an unusual reaction during funny moments. When surprised by an absurd event, non sequitur or an incredibly stupid comment, he topples over and his legs will stick in the air. Basically, he is so shocked at witnessing something unexpected and ridiculous that it literally makes him fall to the ground.
Due to the influence of Denki Kaminari and especially Minoru Mineta, Daniel has some lewd thoughts about the girls. This creates some small-scale embarrassing situations when he make uncharacteristically suggestive comments when asked. But unlike both, he displays maturity in handling his instincts and defends his female friends.
Overall Abilities: Daniel has proven to be a highly astute and skilled guy. Since obtaining the powers of his Quirk, he has undergone a strong training and learning process. With this, Daniel got impressive results. He placed 16th on the U.A. Entrance Exam, guaranteeing his entry into the renowned school. Later, he was 11th on the Quirk Apprehension Test. His greatest achievement, however, was taking third place at the U.A. Sports Festival, after overcoming several opponents during the preliminary competitions, as well as beating Mina Ashido, Ibara Shiozaki and Fumikage Tokoyami during the one-on-one fights, losing only to Shoto Todoroki.
Using his quirk, Sunboost, Daniel can easily pick up or carry heavy objects and withstand many attacks. Not even a burst of bullets can hurt him when his quirk is active. With training he has acquired proficiency in medium and short range combat, using martial arts physical strikes or materializing energy spheres, and also creating shields that are great defense supports. This makes him one of the strongest and toughest members, physically. He is even able to fuse elements from other quirks with his Ultimate Move, the Guaraci Ball. As he did by combining Kaminari's Electrification with his sphere, to form a hot and electric version named Guaraci Ball: Chargebolt Mode .
He also knows how to work as a team and with anyone. During the U.S.J. Incident, he worked together with teammates Ochaco Uraraka, Mezo Shoji, Rikido Sato and Hanta Sero to defeat Kurogiri, who was trying to stop Tenya Ida's escape. Daniel's abilities caught the attention of Nejire Hado, member of the Big 3, who recommended him, along with Ochaco and Tsuyu to intern alongside her under the tutelage of the Pro Hero Ryukyu. Together with his partners, Daniel was part of the Shie Hassaikai Raid, whereby the Ryukyu Squad acted as the first line of defense against Rikiya Katsukame of the Eight Bullets and were able to successfully subdue him. In the Joint Training Battle, Daniel participated in two rounds. In both, taking advantage of his newest costume and support items, he showcased versatility in creating new moves and in the camaraderie with his teammates. He did a great teamwork with the invited student Hitoshi Shinso, in defeating the aggressive Jurota Shishida, although the two had never worked together in their lives. After effectively luring Jurota to an isolated area, the two formed a plan to confuse him, and utilize his attacks. Hitoshi used his Binding Cloth technique to blindside and daze the rampaging student long enough for Daniel to finish him off with his new move Impulso Solar No. 2 , securing victory for Team 1-A.
- Video Game Martial Arts: Being a fan of fighting games, Daniel has knowledge of many of the moves in this style of game. He often imitates these moves while training. So he took a peculiar idea to use these moves for his Ultimate Moves, putting his mark on them, be it by changing the name or some other important element. He made, for example, the Amaterasu Heavenly Strike , inspired by the special attack Shinryuken , of the famous character Ken Masters from the Street Fighter franchise. And he also made Hyperion Collider , based on the move called Captain Corridor , which is used bythe character Captain Commando in the Marvel vs Capcom series.
- Enhanced Stamina: Even without using Sunboost, Daniel has formidable stamina, acquired through intense training. After having him stamina siphoned by a Trigger-enhanced Rikiya, Daniel was still able to hold him own against the Yakuza members for 20 minutes until the Trigger drug wore off, allowing the Ryukyu Squad to defeat him once and for all. In Brazil, he was still able to resist the fight against Steamroller, during the night, long enough for the police to arrive and arrest the villain.
Tactical Intellect: Daniel showed to be very intelligent. His grades are one of the highest in his class, getting 7th place in the mid-terms. Daniel is surprisingly astute for his age, being well aware of his surroundings and being able to make precise choices during intense moments. He has a keen analytical eye and can analyze or even narrate a situation that he is observing. He can easily read the atmosphere around him and focus on all the acquired data quickly and effectively, analyzing the situation to discern how to handle it, creating effective plans quickly.
Daniel believes that a hero should not rely fully on his master plan and that he should be ready for the worst-case scenario. Therefore, he tries to think in steps ahead of his actions and those of his partners and opponents. He seeks to develop alternative plans, aiming to anticipate enemy actions, or even to create a purposeful flaw in the first plan, causing the enemy to exploit this flaw, making them comfortable, when in fact it is a trap planted by Daniel. From these characteristics, he proved to be an expert counterstrategy tactician.
Adaptability: Daniel has a high level of resilience. He has proven himself to have an adaptable mind, being able to adjust himself or change his actions, and can use the most random resources to his advantage to minimize injury to himself or his allies.
Leadership skills: Daniel has shown experience in leading teams. However, he demonstrates insecurity and considers himself unworthy of such a position. During his first fight in the Joint Training against Class 1-B, he admitted to his opponent Shiozaki that he was not the leader of the team and that Tsuyu was better than him in this role. He reiterated this sentiment while talking with Setsuna later that same day, confessing that his mind acts reactively, relying on others' reactions to determine his actions. If he has to take the initiative by imposing a plan of attack, he will likely fail. Aizawa is aware of Daniel's insecurity and purposely puts him in the position of group leader whenever possible, pushing him to adapt and step out of his comfort zone.
Regardless of this, his friends trust and follow his instructions without much resistance. Because he has demonstrated on several occasions that he is capable of instructing and coordinating a group. He did so in Brazil, inspiring protests against the Quirk's Regulation Act, and during the Joint Training, where he worked with Asui and Shinso to coordinate their group's attacks. Even when he took initiative, such as during the Sports Festival and Provisional Hero Licence, his plans were easily understood and successfully executed, enabling him and his partners to get out of bad situations. Later, in the Paranormal Liberation War, Daniel took an active leadership role and rallied other heroes and students to fight against an Upper-Tier Nomu. Together, they managed to beat the creature, an impressive feat for a student considering that only renowned pro-heroes had accomplished such a task.
Daniel may not admit it, but he possesses the major characteristics of a great leader.
Multilingualism: Besides Portuguese, his native language, Daniel speaks both Japanese and English competently. He also has intermediate skills of Spanish.
Athlete: He is a very skilled soccer player. He was a star player in his old school's team. He tried to be a professional player, but was not successful. Even so, he always practices his favorite sport when he has a chance. He also likes to play basketball and Jogging. Daniel has a strong physique thanks to his training. He uses some martial arts moves, like Boxing and Capoeira, during his fights.
Empathic Insight: Daniel has demonstrated an ability to understand the emotions of others. He possesses a strong sense of empathy and excels at effectively communicating with comforting words to console those who are going through suffering. This was evident when he supported Momo after her defeat to Fumikage Tokoyami during the Sports Festival, and when he consoled Setsuna after her loss to Katsuki in Joint Training. His words had a positive impact, providing comfort and instilling confidence in both of them. His actions greatly contributed to their personal growth and development.
In addition to his empathetic nature, Daniel's analytical skills enable him to highlight people's positive attributes in such situations. This was demonstrated when he praised Setsuna's plan during the joint training between classes 1-A and 1-B. He attentively observed the match, providing detailed explanations and commending her leadership. He even acknowledged that he was not as skilled as she was.
This ability to understand emotions also proves valuable during battles. For instance, during the Provisional Hero License Exam, Daniel keenly sensed his opponents' nervousness and used his insight to confuse and ultimately eliminate them from the exam.
Recognizing that heroes are human beings beneath their fantastical image, Daniel openly criticizes the notion of infallibility often associated with heroes. He engages in discussions with pro-heroes about the significance of emotional support during critical moments, emphasizing its importance for both students and professionals. Furthermore, he addresses students and teachers, stressing the importance of maintaining good mental health and raising awareness about the risks of depression.
Musical Talent: Daniel is able to play tamborim, a common instrument in Brazil's carnival and Samba. Thanks to Momo, he can play a few notes on the piano, having his progress praised by his friend. He has also been learning to play bass and guitar, with Kyouka Jirou. In addition, he shows a talent for songwriting, as he has done some parodies of Brazilian songs, portraying some Japanese customs and literature.

Sunboost (サンブースト Sanbūsuto?): Daniel's quirk allows him to obtain physical strength and durability by absorbing solar energy. With the quirk enabled, an orange aura covers Daniel's entire body, as well as his eyes turning yellow and his hair turning shades of gray. It has been demonstrated that he can lift a truck with his bare hands. And also reach great heights, with super jumps. However, his reflexes and mobility do not grow much. The quirk acts as a booster. This means that the strength and endurance acquired are high according to the physical conditioning of the user's body. Therefore, Daniel started doing physical exercises to improve his performance.
Aizawa considers the Sunboost a double-edged sword. At warmer times of the year, such as summer, Daniel can become the strongest member. On the other hand, in colder or rainy temperatures, he can be considered useless, since his quirk depends on the presence of the sun to function. Because of this factor, the quirk also does not work or is very limited at night. Unless he has an object that replicates or emulates solar radiation (like the reactor implanted in his second hero's costume or the bodysuit he acquired during his camp training). So Sunboost can be a strength or a weakness. It all will depends on the weather condition at the moment.
- Enhanced Strength: When Daniel's cells are powered by solar energy, he gains a superhuman ability to increase physical strength. Initially, his original strength was 10 tons. After intense physical training since manifesting his Quirk for the first time, this strength has increased to 30 tons.
- Enhanced Stamina: Daniel proved to be able to endure combat, even wounded, without getting tired. During childhood, he could play soccer for long hours without showing fatigue. And practice other physical exercises at school for several hours. This indicates that Sunboost, even without his knowledge, already functioned in his body, before his definitive awakening. In his battle against Dr. Fasendini, he was able to keep fighting even after suffering multiple bloody injuries and his costume was practically destroyed. Afterwards, he smashed the villain with a fierce punch that ended his battle. During the Paranormal Liberation War, he proved to be one of the most active members, facing villains and helping his partners throughout the war He was still able to take on an Nomu, despite his injuries, during the battle.
- Enhanced Leap: Daniel's inability to fly is somewhat offset by his superhuman jumping ability. He concentrates solar energy in his legs to jump, allowing him to reach great distances in a short time.
- Enhanced Durability: Daniel's quirk grants him much greater durability. The solar cells strengthen Daniel's body to the point where he can withstand intense attacks. During his stay in Brazil, he proved to be very resilient after escaping unharmed from a collision with a high-speed car, a series of bullets being fired at him, and withstanding an insane sequence of punches from Dr. Fasendini during his final duel. Later, in Joint Training against Class 1-B, he resisted Jurota's attacks in the Round 1, and a shower of psychic blades created by Psico, during Round 5. In the Paranormal Liberation War, he was able to withstand most of the attacks from an Middle-Tier Nomu and beat him afterwards, along with other heroes. Also, Daniel was shown to have a high resistance to fire attacks. This was proven after he resisted Dabi's flames without much trouble. This is a remarkable fact because his flames possess greater firepower than Endeavor's, capable of totally incinerating his enemies in an instant.
- Aura Manipulation: After long learning and training about his quirk, Daniel was able to control the aura that emerges from his own body when using the Sunboost. He can concentrate a greater amount of aura on a specific part of his body, such as his fists or feet, which will give him more strength than usual. With the gloves of his Solar Costumes, he can create a powerful sphere to attack the opponents or create a shield to reflect attacks. Or also concentrate aura on his feet and legs, to gain impulse for jumping and reaching great heights.

- SC-2Apollo Shield (アポロシールド Aporo Shīrudo?): Daniel creates a shield to block opponents' attacks. The shield can withstand huge beams and high heat temperatures, how to block the intense flames of Dabi, during the Work Study II.
- SC-1Guaraci Ball (グアラーシボール Guarāshi Bōru?): Considered his signature attack. Daniel concentrates energy in one hand to create a ball that, depending on its speed and the amount of energy it accumulates, can destroy anything it comes in contact with. The sphere is strong enough to emit its own heat, as if it were a mini sun. He can either throw or push it towards the enemy.
- SC-1Guaraci Ball: Chargebolt Mode (グアラーシボール・チャージズマモード Guarāshi Bōru Chājizuma Mōdo?): Ultimate Move created in conjunction with Denki Kaminari. Daniel creates a Guaraci Ball, while Denki energizes it with 100000 Volt with his Electrification quirk. Making the ball look more electric with intense sparks all around. Daniel and Denki attack together, holding the sphere in their hands, advancing the enemy. When it touches the target, the sphere pushes the opponent away while he is hit with a strong electrical discharge caused by lightning.
- SC-2Guaraci Big Ball (グアラーシビッグボール Guarāshi Biggubōru?): It is a bigger and stronger version of the original technique. This variant consists of using the same concept of concentrating energy in the palm of the hand, but adding even more energy. Because of this, the technique grows in size and the sphere releases all the energy during contact, ensuring a destructive power superior to that of the conventional attack.
- SC-2Guaraci Giga Ball (グアラーシギガボール Guarāshi Gigabōru?): Daniel concentrates enough energy to makes a giant sphere, bigger than his own body, that makes him wield it with one hand. This technique was able to defeat a Nomu during the Paranormal Liberation War Arc. But it can leave him vulnerable, because it consumes a lot of his energy.
- SC-3Guaraci Plus Ultra Ball (グアラーシプルスウルトラボール Guarāshi Purusu Urutorabōru?): Fifth and most powerful version. This time, Daniel doesn't hold back and creates an ultra giant ball, bigger than Guaraci's Giant Ball. The impact of this technique can carve a huge crater on the ground. It is said that its power - if it exploded - would easily destroy an entire city.
- SC-2Guaraci Shot (グアラーシショット Guarāshi Shotto?): Daniel stays close to his opponent, then thrusts both palms forward and creates a rapid sequence of short-range explosions, which blast over the enemy. He used this technique to beat Betsu Murasaki, in the Joint Training.
- SC-1Helios Crush (ヘーリオスクラッシュ Hēriosu Kurasshu?): Daniel slams his fists into the ground, creating a powerful shockwave that travels outward in a straight line. This move has a limited range and can leave him vulnerable to aerial attacks.
- SC-1Impulso Solar (インプルソ ソラー Inpuruso Sorā?): Daniel is surrounded by energy and charges forward hitting his opponent. This move can block some projectiles without losing speed. He used this move for the first time against Ashido, during the Sports Festival. Initially, taking inspiration from the Carolina Smash, he used his arms in the form of a cross in front of his face to attack his opponent. After a while of perfecting this technique, he began to attack with a shoulder tackle.
- SC-2Impulso Solar No. 2 (インプルソ ソラーナンバーツー Inpuruso Sorā Nanbā Tsū?): Enhanced version of the technique of the same name. Thanks to the solar gauntlets equipped on his arms, Daniel is able to create a shield and use it to charge full speed at their opponent while surrounded by energy, barraging the enemy multiple times. This move can block projectiles and even huge beams without losing power or speed. He used this new version for the first time to beat Jurota Shishida, during the Joint Training Battle against Class 1-B.
- SC-1Solar Smash (ソラースマッシュ Sorā Sumasshu?): A technique that manifested in his Quirk Awakening, to defeat Dr. Fasendini - in his final form - during the battle in Brazil. Overcoming his own limits, by his desire to be reunited with his 1-A friends, Daniel concentrates all his power in his fist, throwing a massive punch powerful enough to open a hole in the ground. His fist gains a glow so strong that it can light up the night, as if it were the sun itself.
- SC-2Hyperion Collider (ハイペロンコレダ Haiperon Koreda?): Daniel punches the ground (similarly to Helios Crush) and a gigantic plasma pillar emerges that blasts straight down on enemies. Unlike the previous mentioned techinique, this move has a much greater range, can reach great heights, and protect the user from aerial attacks. This move appears very quickly, making it very useful to surprise the opponent. He used this attack during his fight against Jurota, in the Joint Training.
- SC-3Amaterasu Heavenly Strike (アマテラスヘブンリーストライク Amaterasu Hebunrī Sutoraiku): Daniel kneels down and prepares to execute a powerful Uppercut that rises vertically, while fire erupts around him in a spiralling manner causing a vacuum effect that sucks in the opponent and strikes him multiple times.
- SC-3Terminator Sun (ターミネーターサン Tāminetā San?): Daniel surrounds himself in a sphere of orange energy, as if he were the sun itself, able to emit heat and light.

SC-1Solar Costume V1: From Quick Apprehension Test Arc to Daniel Santos Origin Arc
His first hero costume is a jumpsuit created with Daniel's cells that can absorb solar energy.
The upper part of the outfit is yellow, with some black designs. It has a black collar that covers the entire neck. There are sun symbols on his chest and back. While the lower part is predominantly black with yellow diagonal stripes, and gray jewelers. To complete the costume, yellow-gray gloves with a sun symbol on the back of the hands and yellow boots, with a gray strap.
- Solar Shoulders: It's shoulder pads with solar panels that can re-channel the solar energy that his body absorbs. It also stores energy for him to use at another opportune time (like during the night). The item can help Daniel to focus his attacks on a point on his body that he wanted.
- Guaraci's Hands: High-temperature resistant gloves that help Daniel concentrate the energy in his hands with more precision and speed. Thanks to them, Daniel was able to create his main signature move (see Guaraci Ball ).
- Boost Boots: The boots are reinforced with solar cells to help with Daniel's big leaps. When he concentrates energy in his feet to jump, the gray straps and soles burst into a fiery, intense glow. These boots allow him to jump far with greater precision and speed, and provide great strength and resistance to cushion the impact of the fall, guaranteeing a safer landing.
The costume was destroyed during his battle in Brazil and was replaced by the Solar Costume V2.
SC-2Solar Costume V2: From Joint Training Arc to Paranormal Liberation War Arc.
The second costume was built to help Daniel during the winter, season that weakens Sunboost. The outfit was developed by U.A.'s Support Department and later received assistance from Melissa Shield, who created the reactor and gauntlets. Daniel debuted his costume during the Joint Training against Class 1-B.
The SC-2 consists of black and yellow jumpsuit decorated with fine golden lines around the arms, along with a solar reactor that keeps it powered. There's a small sun symbol on the front of the collar and a larger one covering the back. At the bottom, long black boots with red tips and yellow buttons. During the winter, he wears white fur around his neck and above the boots.
His hands are protected by red and black thermal gloves with golden gauntlets containing photovoltaic cells. Daniel also received a utility belt with various accessories for his missions, as well as a transparent visor to protect his eyes.
The suit has several accessories and devices:

- His full name is Daniel Antônio dos Guimarães Santos (ダニエル・アントニオ・ドス・ギマラエス・サントス Danieru Antonio dosu Gimaraesu Santosu). It is common for Brazilian names to have two given names, followed by the family names of the father and mother (not necessarily following this order). So, 'Daniel Antônio' is his baptismal name, and "dos Guimarães" and "Santos" are his paternal and maternal surnames, respectively.

- Longing: Ilu-Ayê is an African expression meaning "land of life" or "distant land". According to Brazilian historians, the enslaved blacks in Brazil used this word to express their longing for their homeland in Africa. Thus, he considers Ilu-Ayê as a reference to Brazil, his distant homeland. The country that he was forced to leave early because of strict laws against people with quirks.
- Journey: Ilu-Ayê became the title of a song, for the 1972 carnival. The song narrates the history of the black people in Brazil, from the beginning of slavery until the days of that time. Exalting the culture, habits, and beliefs of the Afro-Brazilians. Daniel identified with the song because it allegorically expressed his feelings during his journey to become a hero in Japan. Being a gaijin, he cites cases that a foreigner can go through and divides the song into at least three parts: insecurity, acceptance e ascension.
- Insecurity: the difficult phase when Daniel has to deal with homesickness and his family, the difficulty of adapting to a new country.
- Acceptance: Daniel begins to make new friends and is treated as an equal, without being treated as inferior because he is a foreigner. Even though he sometimes suffers some prejudice, he is respected by most people.
- Ascension: about the small and big conquests of everyday life in the new country. The stage when he begins to prosper. Daniel passes his test and gets into the best school in Japan. Sometime later, his big moment until then. He won third place in the Sports Festival and over 900 nominations for an internship. Showing that his performance has been recognized by many people.
- Initially, Daniel named himself solely as Ilu-Ayê. However, after fighting in Brazil and gaining acceptance from his fellow countrymen, he adopted the title of Sun Star Hero before his hero name.

Born in Brazil, Daniel lived a quiet life without manifesting any quirk. He lived with his two brothers, Ricardo and Rafael, and his divorced mother, Catarina. They are all quirkless and Daniel is the oldest of the three siblings. His father has been absent since he was four years old, and he has not seen him since.
As a child, Daniel’s dream was to become a soccer player and Daniel showed an exceptional talent for it. However, this dream was interrupted when he had a Quirk awakening. That happened when Daniel was 12 years old, during an argument involving his brothers. At one point, his right hand was filled with an orange and black aura. He managed to hide it in time for someone to notice the reaction, but he was very frightened when he showed it to his mother and brothers.
Brazil has some resistance to adopting heroism as a profession. The Quirk's Regulation Act is in force in the country and regularizes users of indivualities in the country before the government control. So there are no hero agencies or even schools for people with quirks. And anyone who uses their quirk on the streets will be arrested even if it's to save people. Or taken away from their families, if they were minors. A part of Brazilian society also is intolerant and prejudiced against quirks. People with quirks do not have some civil rights, such as voting rights and life insurance. Because of this, many people with quirks choose to live in other countries. Many Brazilian Pro Heroes do not comply with the request, due to the prejudice and lack of support that people with Quirks suffer in Brazil.
In this context, Daniel's life was threatened. He could no longer be a soccer player, as he dreamed, or even play with his friends. So he stopped going to school and his mother started hiding him at home for a few months. Meanwhile, his mother got in touch with an old friend living in Japan, who offered to take care of Daniel there, so that he could enter a hero school in that country.
Catarina, encouraged his move to Japan. She started crowdfunding, worked two jobs, and sold her car to raise money, so Daniel could travel. And she was able to solve all the bureaucracy that exists for a minor to travel abroad, thanks to the help of other people who dealt with the formalities.With the help of his mother and friends, Daniel made the difficult decision to go to Japan.
Before leaving, Daniel found out more about his quirk. He noticed that his aura can cover his whole body or just a part that he wants, and his appearance also change when his eyes turned yellow, and his hair became whiter. During his training, when he used his Quirk, his strength and endurance increased incredibly. But he was not yet able to not generate light or heat with his own body. At this point, Rafael commented that Quirk works as an booster. Then Daniel came up with the idea of naming this quirk as Impulso Solar.
In Japan, After his 14th birthday, Daniel decided to take advantage of his first year in Japan to adapt to the country. Studying in a local school with other Japanese students and learning more about his quirk, training to prepare for the entrance exam for the hero school. However, he faced adversities in the new country. During this time he became stronger and was able to make very high jumps, but he eventually acquired a fear of heights. Also, he realized that his quirk did not work at night or on rainy days.
Entrance Exam Arc
Daniel arrives for the Entrance Exam. He watches a boy being scolded and thinks he has seen him somewhere before. Shortly after, Present Mic calls the participants to begin the exam.
During the practical part, Daniel feels the pressure of the competition and the weight of his dreams. Despite the challenge, he scores 32 points by defeating the Villain Bots and an additional 17 points for rescuing people. He feels proud but also anxious about the results. When he returns home, he tells Lúcia that he has mixed impressions of the participants and the test's difficulty, wondering if he did enough to pass.
In the end, he earns enough points to be admitted to U.A. High School's hero course.
Quirk Apprehension Test Arc
Daniel arrives in Class 1-A on the first day of school. He is greeted by Denki Kaminari, who says he recognized him during the Exam and they begins to chating about the size of the doors. After the other students, a man clad in a sleeping bag, lying on the ground appears in the room. They are frightened when he tells them that they're taking up too much time chatting.
This man introduces himself as Shota Aizawa: their homeroom teacher. He immediately tells the class to dress in their P.E. attire and go to the training grounds. Class 1-A follows Shota outside, where he announces that they will undergo Quirk apprehension tests to determine their standing in the class. The person who places last will be immediately expelled. Daniel is shocked by his teacher's announcement that the student who places last would be expelled. Shota says that many of the world's disasters are unfair and that the students will need to "Go Beyond" that.
The Quirk Apprehension Test begins with the students of Class 1-A competing in a series of tests such as the 50-meter dash, the Grip Strength Test, the Standing Long Jump, the Sustained Sideways Jump and the final test the Pitch. In the last test, Daniel makes a pitch with his Sunbost Quirk. In the end, once everyone completes the test, Shota states that no one will be expelled, revealing that it was all a rational deception to make sure everyone gave it their all.
Battle Trial Arc
The next day at school, All Might teaches Class 1-A's Basic Hero Training Class and announces that the class will participate in Battle Trials. Daniel gets excited by the idea of combat training and changes into his hero costume with the rest of his class. After draw, he is partnered with Hanta Sero and Eijiro Kirishima on "Team J" after being randomly paired.
Daniel watches the battles between the teams of Izuku Midoriya and Ochaco Uraraka against Tenya Ida and Katsuki Bakugo. He is impressed with Izuku's efforts against Katsuki during their fight.
Watching the match between Shoto Todoroki vs Mashirao Ojiro and Toru Hagakure, Daniel begin to shiver when Shoto uses his Quirk as he comments that cold temperatures nullify the Quirk Sunboost, after the battle trials, when Izuku returns to class, Daniel, along with his other classmates, surround him, praising his performance during the Battle Trial and introduce themselves.
U.S.J. Arc
During their next homeroom class, Shota Aizawa announces Class 1-A must choose a class president. Daniel and his classmates are excited by the idea of representing their class. After voting, Izuku Midoriya is elected and Daniel openly supports him.
Later on, the school sirens go off at lunch and students evacuate in a panic, creating a large traffic jam. Daniel is caught in the mob, but the situation is diffused by Tenya Ida, who reveals it is a false alarm caused by the media trespassing on school grounds. Afterward, Izuku resigns as class president and nominates Tenya in his place. Daniel concurs with the decision because he saw that Tenya took the initiative and managed to control the previous situation.
Shota interrupts and instructs the class to suit up and prepare to head out for rescue training. While on the bus traveling to an outside facility, Ochaco asks Daniel if he comes from an upper-class family. Daniel says no, and he explains some things about his country and the anti-quirk policy that exists there. He reveals that he comes from a humble family, and Ochaco plays with him when she reveals that she is also from a poor family. Class 1-A reaches the Unforeseen Simulation Joint and soon greeted by the Space Hero: Thirteen. Thirteen speaks to them about the importance of using their Quirks to help others. The teacher's speech is interrupted when villains suddenly enter the facility through a warp gate.
Shota fends off the villains on his own and leaves Thirteen to evacuate with the class. They prepare to escape, but they are cut off by the villain Kurogiri. He explains he and his allies are the League of Villains. They came to the U.S.J. to kill All Might, but he isn't there. Kurogiri is able to avoid their attack and counterattacks by warping the class across the facility. Tenya grabs Ochaco and Rikido and evades the warp gate.
Only Daniel, Ochaco, Tenya, Rikido, Hanta, Mezo, and Mina remain on the entrance platform with Thirteen. Thirteen instructs Tenya to run back to the main campus to get help. He's reluctant at first, but Daniel and the others encourage him to save the day. Kurogiri overhears their plan and attacks. Thirteen counters with their Black Hole Quirk to vacuum in Kurogiri's mist. Kurogiri turns Black Hole's power against Thirteen by opening a gate behind them. Thirteen is nearly torn in half and is ultimately defeated by the villain.
Daniel and his classmates tend to Thirteen after the latter is injured by Kurogiri. He then witnessed All Might's arrival and his fight with Nomu before the other heroes came and the villains were detained. Daniel and all her other peers return to U.A. High uninjured.
U.A. Sports Festival Arc
Two days after the attack on the U.S.J., Daniel and his classmates return to school and talk about the attack. Shota appears all bandaged due to the injuries he suffered in the fight against Nomu. He announces the U.A. Sports Festival, and Daniel gets surprised by the decision to hold a Festival so soon after the attack as if nothing had happened. He further encourages Denki by saying that he will be a great hero if he dedicates himself. No long after, Ochaco Uraraka gets overly excited and demands the class chant that they will do their best. Daniel responds a little freaked out.
As the school day ends, Class 1-A is unable to leave their class thanks to the mob of students blocking the exit. The students are from other classes and are there to scope out their competition for the festival. Katsuki makes them all angry with his arrogant comments, putting a target on the backs of the students in Class 1-A. Daniel and the others fear everyone hates their class thanks to Katsuki.
For the next two weeks, Daniel and his classmates train in order to prepare for the Sports Festival. Two weeks have passed and the day of the U.A. Sports Festival has finally arrived. Security has been beefed up heavily and the Sports Festival is being broadcast live. Daniel changes into his P.E. clothes and prepares with his class in their designated waiting room. Like the rest of his peers, He takes notice when Shoto Todoroki challenges Izuku Midoriya. Shoto declares that he will defeat Izuku, to which Izuku responds that he will aim for the top. Class 1-A is called out onto the festival arena, where Katsuki gives the pledge. Daniel and the others aren't surprised when all he says is that he will win.
Midnight announces the preliminaries will be an Obstacle Race four kilometers around the stadium, which immediately begins after the rules are explained. Shoto gets out to an early lead by freezing the stadium's exit, but Daniel avoids the ice by jumping with Eijiro through the exit. Next, everyone reaches the first obstacle: a blockade of Villain Bots from the entrance exam, including several giant Zero-Point Villains. Daniel forms a cross with his arms and destroy the robots in his path. At this time he has an idea of a new special move. He eventually makes it to the second leg of the race: "The Fall".

The final event is a tournament event and Daniel's opponent in the first round is Mina Ashido. During the match, Mina kept at a distance avoiding hand-to-hand combat with him and surrounding the ground with acid to restrict Daniel’s movements. However, Daniel used his new move "Impulso Solar", an explosion of concentrated solar energy and easily crossed the arena. Mina tried to defend herself with an acid barrier, but did not avoid the impact. She was sent out of the arena, securing Daniel’s victory.
After winning his match, Daniel goes to the waiting room to relax. On the way, he encounters Momo Yaoyorozu, sitting in a corner of a staircase, emotionally shaken due to her defeat in the match against Fumikage Tokoyami.
Daniel immediately feels empathy for Momo and chooses to sit beside her. He tells her that he understands how she feels, how the emotions of disappointment can eat away at you from the inside. So, he shares his own story of disillusionment, when he was rejected from the soccer school, a childhood dream that deeply affected him. However, Daniel's friends cheered him up and supported him. He tells her that failure doesn't define who we are but strengthens us. His story manages to capture Momo's attention and halt her tears. Daniel offers her a glass of water and a tissue to wipe her face.
Daniel praises Momo's abilities, particularly her Quirk, Creation. He says he admires Momo, stating that he considers her the most intelligent person he has ever met because of her ability to understand and meticulously study the configuration of various objects to create them with her own body. He reveals that he was dumbfounded when he saw her creating a cannon at the beginning of the festival. Momo laughs at Daniel's revelation and thanks Daniel’s sincerity and affectionate words. She gives him a hug, causing Daniel to blush.
The two spend some time talking. Momo, now more relaxed and calm, talks about her family and when she created an object for the first time. They share a laugh when they reminisce about Denki acting goofy from overusing his Quirk during the attack on the USJ and Daniel is a little flushed when Momo reveals that she was partially naked during the attack. Daniel recounts how the other tournament matches went until realizes that they've been away from their classmates for quite some time. They decide to return to the stands, and Momo tells Daniel that she will be rooting for him for the rest of the festival.
Daniel returns to the stands as Izuku and Shoto face off. Toru notices that he's come along with Momo and teasingly asks if they were on a date. Both Momo and Daniel deny it, but cannot hide the blushes on their faces. Mina start teasing them while Denki and Minoru started to antagonize Daniel, leading to Kyoka to attack both of them by inserting her jacks into their ears and vibrating them. Tenya starts a sermon about the prohibition of affectionate gestures in U.A.'s hallways, but Daniel cut it short claiming it was merely a coincidence, as he was on his way back from the waiting room and met Momo on the way. Fumikage interrupts the discussion, stating that the fight is about to begin and encourages everyone to use Izuku's battle as inspiration.
After Izuku's and Shoto's clash, it's Daniel's turn to enter the arena. In second round match, Daniel faces Class 1-B student Ibara Shiozaki. Ibara starts attacking with her thorns, but Daniel's maneuverability allowed him to avoid her thorns. In the remaining seconds of the match, Daniel grabs Ibara, and throws her out of bounds, thus making him the winner and allowing him to move on to the third round (the semi-finals).
In the semi-finals, Daniel’s next opponent is Shoto Todoroki. Knowing that Shoto can use his ice to block out the sunlight at any moment, Daniel decides to strike Shoto with a powerful blow as quickly as possible and evade his ice attacks as much as he can. Shoto, on the other hand, chooses not to use his fire, as it could potentially strengthen Daniel.
Daniel tries to attack Shoto with a speed-enhanced kick, but Shoto dodges his kick. Daniel quickly counters and attacks Shoto with another kick, which slams Shoto down onto the floor and injures him. Shoto grabs Daniel's leg, but Daniel kicks Shoto away.
Realizing that Daniel was gaining an advantage under the scorching sun, Shoto creates a massive ice mountain to block out the sunlight, casting a shadow that weakens Daniel. Daniel realizes he's growing weaker and decides to launch an all-out attack on Shoto before his Quirk weakens completely. But Shoto realized that Daniel is left-handed, as he has a tendency to use more of his left side in his advances.
Shoto freezes all the Daniel's all left side, and reveals that he had noticed Daniel's pattern since the festival began. Daniel was shocked that someone had spotted this kind of weakness when he hadn't even realized it himself. After that, Midnight declares that Shoto is the winner after Daniel surrenders.
The audience applauded Daniel's bravery for fighting despite knowing the difficulties and his limitations. Even with the defeat, Daniel guaranteed the right to participate in the battle for third place in the tournament, awaiting the loser of the other semifinal matchup between Fumikage and Katsuki.
Vs. Hero Killer Arc
Daniel returns to Class 1-A once classes resume at U.A. High School. During the Hero Informatics, Shota explains that the students will need to choose their hero names. He reveals the Pro-Hero draft results, with Daniel receiving 916 offers from pros. He's astonished by the number of offers but is pleased to have been noticed by so many heroes. Shota announces that all the students will intern with pros whether they received offers or not.
Midnight joins the class to help the students choose their hero names. Daniel chooses and presents the name Ilu-Ayê and explains that it's a name of a Brazilian song, meaning "remember your home with fondness," as a tribute to his homeland. Midnight approves of the choice and commends him for remembering his origins at this significant moment in his hero journey. Later, he thanks Izuku for inspiring him to view a name from a different perspective, just as Izuku did when announcing his hero name as Deku.
At lunchtime, Daniel states that he wants his work place to be with Kamui Woods as he is the hero he likes best. On the day of the work place training, he is at the train station with his class so that he can travel to the work place of his choice by train.
The workplace training comes to an end and Daniel returns to UA with good memories. In Class 1-A, Daniel talks to Denki and Minoru who learned many things from Kamui and will take them these teachings forever. He laughs when Minoru says that he knows the true nature of women now.
During Foundational Heroes Studies, Daniel, along with Izuku, Tenya, Mashirao, Mina, and Hanta, is the first group to partake in the rescue training race. The race begins and Daniel uses her Quirk to leap and maneuver around the construction site but he becomes nauseous with the height and loses the race. He vomits because of the dizziness at the finish line while All Might commends the group for improving their Quirks broadly since entering U.A. and asks them to prepare for the end-of-term test.

Joint Training Arc
In early December, Class 1-A and Class 1-B come together for their first Joint Training Battle exercise. Vlad King and Shota organize the classes, and the students gather at Ground Gamma. Daniel arrives a little late but surprises everyone with the look of his new outfit, the Solar Costume V2, showcasing the new items he acquired and promising to demonstrate new moves. Before the clashes begin, he greets Hitoshi Shinso and Betsu Murasaki, students invited for the training.
Shota and Vlad explain the rules of the exercise, and decided that Daniel will participate in two battles, specifically, Round 1 and Round 5 of the training. In the first round, he teams up with Tsuyu Asui, Denki Kaminari, Koji Koda, and Hitoshi Shinso to form Class 1-A's Team 1 against Class 1-B team, formed Ibara Shiozaki, Kosei Tsuburaba, Hiryu Rin, and Jurota Shishida. Daniel laments they didn't get to form a proper plan. They decide that regardless, they'll have to fight to win.
As Class 1-A moves through the battlefield, Daniel uses his new visor to track the opponents. However, Jurota appears and smashes Tsuyu, sending her flying while Kosei captures Koji with his Quirk. Daniel ends up trapped by Ibara, who challenges him to a rematch, mentioning the defeat she suffered at the Sports Festival. After a brief fight, Daniel gets rid of Ibara's Vines and watches Hitoshi also gets captured by Kosei's Air Prison. During the following skirmish, Tsuyu Asui managed to capture Kosei and takes him to prison, being persecuted by Jurota and Ibara. However, Daniel springs into action, activating his new move Hyperion Collider, forcing Class 1-B to retreat, ending the firstthe first skirmish with a 1-0 lead (Koji captured).
Daniel releases Hitoshi from the Air Prison and offers words of encouragement at the fellow’s frustration for not catching Jurota in time. The remaining group devise a plan to defeat Class 1-B. With her mucus, Tsuyu manages to fool Jurota's sense of smell, Denki uses his Sharpshooting Gear to locate Class 1-B's team, and utilizes Daniel’s light grenades to stun them, helping Tsuyu, Hitoshi, and Daniel get into place unnoticed. He and Hitoshi gets into position within the maze of pipes and waits for their opportunity to strike. Hitoshi calls out to Ibara with his voice changer, mimicking Rin's voice. Ibara responds, falling victim to Hitoshi's Brainwashing.
Daniel warns Hitoshi that Jurota is approaching and they put the plan into action. Hitoshi uses his Capturing Weapon to bring down a large pipe on Jurota's head. His plan fails to knock out Jurota, but Daniel steps forward and charges a powerful Impulso Solar No. 2, sending Jurota flying. At that moment, Tsuyu throws Hiryu at him and knocks them both out. Thanks to this, Class 1-A wins the first round.
After the battle, Shota Aizawa asks his students what they learned from the battle. Daniel laments the team's rough start but emphasizes the importance of their quick reaction. Shota praises Daniel's teamwork with Hitoshi and acknowledges the effective use of his gadgets and new moves. However, he cautions Daniel not to become complacent and overly reliant on his costume, emphasizing the need to develop his personal skills alongside the tools at his disposal.
Afterward, he joins Class 1-A's Team 5 to watch and discuss the other matches. He's impressed by Murasaki's Quirk and laments Momo's defeat in Round 2. In the third round, Daniel comments on the intensity of the battles, expressing concern that some participants are pushing the training to the extreme.
During the fourth round, he praises Setsuna's plan but warns that Katsuki is no longer the same guy from the festival, and that she'll be defeated if she lacks a countermeasure. Unfortunately for her, Daniel's prediction comes true as Class 1-A wins the round in less than 5 minutes. He playfully mocks Monoma but feels empathy for Setsuna, seeing her disheartened by their failure. Yet he congratulates his classmates, especially Sero, who is greeted with a special gesture between them. After that, he prepares for the final round as part of Class 1-A's Team 5, alongside Izuku Midoriya, Ochaco Uraraka, Mina Ashido, and Minoru Mineta against Neito Monoma, Yui Kodai, Nirengeki Shoda, Reiko Yanagi, and guests Hitoshi Shinso and Betsu Murasaki.
As the teams enter Ground Gamma, Class 1-A's team realizes they're at a disadvantage, as all of them have more physical Quirks and are therefore vulnerable to Class 1-B's long-range attacks. Mina suggests they try to catch them by setting a trap, and Izuku volunteers to act as a decoy in an attempt to draw their opponents out. Daniel asks if Izuku's Quirk is okay, as he said something unusual was happening with it before, but he says it's fine and he's feeling okay.
Izuku leaps out ahead of his team, knowing that Class 1-B can't ignore him and stands out on purpose, fulfilling his act as a decoy, while Ochaco, Mina, and Mineta are left behind, preparing traps against Class 1-B. However, meanwhile Izuku deals with Neito and Hitoshi, the rest of the class 1-B attack Deku's teammates, and Daniel, Ochaco and Mina use their Quirks to defend against their attacks.
While dodging, Daniel gets caught in Betsu's Mental Cage, who is determined to capture Daniel and prove her hero skills. She concentrates her power and creates a mental grid around Daniel, attempting to imprison him. Daniel realizes the imminent threat and starts channeling solar energy, increasing his strength. He releases a burst of solar energy, breaking part of the mental grid and partially freeing himself. Surprised, Murasaki steps back a bit.
Daniel seizes the moment and quickly advances towards Murasaki. He moves with speed, avoiding her attempts to trap him again with the mental grid, until he exploits a blind spot of Betsu and approaches her from behind with the Guaraci Shot, a rapid sequence of solar energy explosions, hitting Murasaki and sending her flying. With that, Daniel captures Betsu.
Suddenly, something goes wrong with Izuku. Mysterious black tendrils bursts out of his arm, which indiscriminately attack both allies and adversaries. Thanks to the rapid intervention of Ochaco, Hitoshi, and Daniel, Izuku was able to regain control. Despite Izuku's chaotic outburst, all of the students are still eager to win the fight.
Neito reveals that he still has Betsu's imprisonment ability and locks Team 1-A back in a cage, while Yui, Reiko, and Nirengeki combine their attacks, causing a chaotic array of objects. Daniel tries to defend himself but gets hit in the head and faints. He is captured, but Class 1-A's team manages to win the match.
After the round, Daniel apologizes for getting captured but is encouraged by his friends. He receives gratitude from Izuku for saving him from that mysterious blast and is then taken to the medical center to treat the head injury he sustained.
Despite the fierce competition and the result, the exercise ends on good terms between both classes, and in the afternoon, Class 1-B visits Class 1-A's dormitories for socializing and dinner.

Daniel's comments on IzukuIzuku is a cinnamon roll. He’s so kind, he’d apologize if he took a muffin off. His sense of heroims is adorable, yet he is so insecure, almost self-deprecating.
