Story
Taoyin was born in Sector 58, Sub-sector B, spending his childhood in a large but tight-knit farming village. His hometown has a tradition to name their children after crops or trees they planted, but as his parents mainly farmed wheat and chickens, he was named after where they met instead.
At nine he was scouted to be a 登山家 [Dengshanjia, or Mountaineer], despite showing no evidence of powers. He was taken away from his family to the Sector B school where his powers didn't develop until thirteen, while his asthma made him an otherwise ungifted student. It was therefore a surprise when he was conscripted into Sector One's tournament, champions usually chosen for being the best of their schools.
He knows Yifei and Noa from the Sector B school, while he meets the Sector One Champions Celeste and Achieng once he is taken to the Upper City.
