People gifted with magic have started to become a rarer and rarer in kingdom of Noctilium. Beacause of that, when a young servant, Tarin,  is discovered to have a talent for magic, a court sorcerer takes him as an apprentice despite boy’s low birth. The sorcerer starts Tarin’s training and education but mage’s  untimely death ends his learning process prematurely, leaving him with a lot of gaps in his knowledge of magic. At the same time Noctilium’s court needs a new socerer and because of a lack of a better candidate, Tarin is chosen to fill the role.

A hopelessly optimistic man with a fake it till you make it atittude. Always tries his best to prove himself useful. When the situation demans he remains serious but in his day to day life he's a trickster and likes to play harmless magical pranks on others. He didn't exactly learn social etiquette of the nobility and because of that a lot of highborns consider him to be bit of a weirdo. 

Edwyn - previous court sorcerer, strict but dedicated master. Died protecting the kingdom.

Ash - They met at the beggining of Tarin's carrer, they both were sent to negotiate peace with a clan of harpies, now they work with each other from time to time. The two bonded quickly as their fates are similiar in a lot of ways and Tarin found the older man reliable. Soon enough they became really close friends. Tari also developed a crush on Ash. 

Erina - friend from the times when the boy was just a servant. They don't have too much time for each other now.
