Driftstar

The headstrong leader of TreeClan. As the Clan's territory is threatened by bushfires, Driftstar ignores his Clan's pleas to relocate to safety. His lack of action culminates in an uncontrollable fire sweeping through the Clan's camp, leaving almost the entire Clan - including his mate Creamtail and their two kits, Smokekit and Applekit - unaccounted for and presumed dead. Driftstar, terrified of the reality of his actions, runs away from Clan territory without searching his burnt home, unable to cope with the idea of his Clanmate's deaths being his own fault. The few surviving cats follow him, determined to make a new home, but Driftstar's brother Stonefall refuses, wishing to take time to search for survivors and describes Driftstar as a coward.
And as Driftstar leads the remainder of his Clan through unfamiliar territory to find a new home, he grapples with his immense guilt from lack of inaction, confusion from strange cats visiting his dreams, and a slight curiosity as to what Stonefall may have found in the rubble.
