Profile

Goh (Japanese: ゴウ Go), also known as Goh Ketchum after marriage in a future timeline, is a protagonist of Ash Ketchum's animé saga in the Pokémon series and one of the main characters in Soul(mate)s of Light: A SatoGou AU. Just like in the official show, his goal is to catch Mew, while his dream is to catch every Pokémon.

History

Pre-series

The information almost doesn't differ from what's official, except:

  • Goh has his first crush when he's nine years old, on a boy that studies in the same school. He attempts to declare his feelings during a class intermission but he's rejected and humiliated in the courtyard (First paragraphs of "Another Step").
    • This happening contributes for Goh to become a more reserved child and not appear frequently at school.
  • As of the memory flashback of "It Was You All This Time",  Goh learns about the existence of Solgaleo and Lunala species for the first time during an internet search (also at 9) and feels a mysterious affinity towards the latter Legendary Pokémon, encouraging him to be the second Pokémon he wants to catch after Mew.

Litten's Narrative/Pokémon Journeys: The Series

The information is generally the same from what's official, with some extras and/or differences as they follow:

  • Goh falls in love with Ash during the events of JN003 and begins and begins dating with him in a platonic way between the events of JN016 and JN017. One week later, Goh offers a Destiny Knot to Ash as a gift of gratitude and to symbolize their new bond.
  • Goh finds Hope's Litten for the first time in between the episodes of JN022 and JN023 during the events of "A Change of Routine".  After figuring out it's a lost Pokémon, he and Ash temporary keep her until a claim appears in the Pokémon Center network. Goh travels with Ash to a research task in the Sevii Islands to capture the Unown at Tanoby Ruins and stopping Team Rocket from capturing a Moltres in Mt. Ember. Goh also saves Ash from getting wounded from Team Rocket's Rhyperior, fainting in the process due to a blockage of Fire Punch's burn with his arm. The next day, Goh meets Hope for the first time when returning her Litten after he learns about the claim and the address of Litten's Trainer.
    • Goh catches 36 Unown in total and registers all the 28 Unown forms in his Pokédex.
    • Because of Hope addressing Ash's Champion status in Alola, Goh learns about this much earlier than in the episode JN076.
  • By the events of "Finding Toxel" (Still between JN022 and JN023 and after "A Change of Routine"), Goh gets contacted by Hope at Cerise Laboratory to ask his help to find her missing Toxel and Litten, the latter being actually next to him. After learning that Litten was hidden in the institute, Hope asks Ash and Goh to look for Toxel with her Pokémon's help. Goh meets Detective Looker for the first time during the search for Hope's Toxel, who offers assistance and also warns for the possible link with a criminal on the loose that steals Poison-type Pokémon. The same thief later shows up and kidnaps Ash and Goh in an attempt to eliminate ocular witnesses about his secret warehouse location. Ash and Goh and all kidnapped Pokémon are rescued in the end by Vermilion City's Police and Detective Looker.
    • It's during this event that Goh sees a Toxtricity for the first time, which ignores the reaction of surprise of the episode JN099.
    • Goh offers Hope an Ultra Ball, originally found by her Litten in "A Change of Routine", as a thanks for her Pokémon's help to defend the group inside the criminal's warehouse.
  • After the happenings of "Finding Toxel", Goh's acquaintanceship with Hope develops into friendship.
  • In "The Foreigner" (Between JN026 and JN027), Goh is confronted by a group of bullies who pick him up because of his sexual orientation and is defended first by Ash before Hope handles the bullies by taking advantage of her wheelchair and her knowledge on adapted Judo techniques to defend her friends from an attack attempt.
  • In "Therapy at the Park" (Still between JN022 and JN023 and after "The Foreigner"), Goh travels with the group to Ecruteak City to participate in a Clear Cut Challenge with his Scyther. He and Ash are provoked by a participating Trainer who heavily criticizes non-evolved Pokémon and challenges them for a battle to prove his point.   Goh and Ash manage to defeat the Trainer and return to Kanto. On the incoming days, Goh assists Hope's therapy sessions at Cerise Park, being a determinant encouragement for his friend's recovery. When the Bug-type Trainer of the contest appears to steal the Pokémon ration prize from Cerise Park, Goh fights back to stop the theft.
  • Goh travels with Ash to Wyndon by the events of "The Flame of Battling" (Between JN028 and JN29) and is rescued by Hope from a cliff near the city, thus meeting up with her again. Hope reveals to Goh her worries about her battling performance for a future challenge with the Gym Leader Kabu and his opinion about her Litten. He watches Ash and Hope training battle and acts as a refree. Later, Goh watches with Ash her Gym Battle and congratulates her victory before they part ways.
    • Because of Hope's Thwackey, the surprise reactions of Ash and Goh upon discovering the species are ignored of the episode JN101. Instead they would comment it's the same Pokémon species that Hope has got.
  • In "Tropical Re-Encounters" (An extension of episode JN037) Goh passes by Kukui's house with Ash and they find Hope again who has freshly completed the Gym Challenge in Galar region and reveals him that she is passing by Alola first to visit her grandparents. He gets to know them (Kani and Makai) later in the same day. Goh brings to Hope's attention about Ash's gloominess about his recent defeat against Bea, asking her help to lift his partner's spirits. She agrees helping by working together at Malie's Library to assemble a strategy. The priorities shift upon the fall of a Shiny Drampa in the garden of Hope's grandparents that's diagnosed with an advanced state of dehydration and high fever by Nurse Joy, with the only way to save its life being to gather enough Hunaahi herb leaves which are extremely rare medicinal plants as Hope's grandmother (Kani) confirms. Learning how meaningful is the Pokémon to Kani and how its life depended on this treatment, Goh, Ash and Hope are extra motivated to find the plant before sunset. The group explores first the Vast Poni Canyon as it's documented to be one of the few places of the region where the plant grows and Goh and Ash are guided by Hope with her tablet's geolocation, but don't manage to find a living exemplar of the herb in the island. Goh also hears the voice of a Lunala near the Poni Altar, who tried to warn the boy about the location of the Hunaahi herb by showing images in his mind. He and the remaining group are ambushed near the Poni Altar by a clan of wild Hakamo-o leaded by an old and violent Kommo-o that despises humans. Goh interrupts his defensive combat by carrying on his back a fainted Ash that suffered dehydratation due to the torrid climate, forcing Hope to finish it to protect the boys from the clan's attack and run away from their territory. The pursuit only ends when Hope resources to a Z-Move to knock out most of the chasing Hakamo-o to protect the Ash and Goh. Once Ash wakes up, the group continues their search by returning to Ula'ula island and looking for the medicinal plant in Blush Mountain and the Haina Desert. In a moment of pinch, Tapu Bulu appears in front of the group to use its powers to multiply the herb crops, being the first time Goh sees the Ula'Ula guardian, Goh, Ash and Hope manage to return in time for Nurse Joy to apply the medicine and save Mo'o's life. Intrigued by Goh and Ash having mentioned on the dinner of the same day that they had heard voices near Poni Altar, Kani asks them if she can read their souls to figure out what's the Pokémon Spirit they carry, that's then confirmed to be Lunala and Solgaleo's respectively and the reason for the earlier phenomenon to have occurred. At this point, Goh realises the symbiotic connection he has with Ash and how their meeting was very likely to be fateful.
    • Goh offers Hope a Nest Ball to help her catch the female Hakamo-o.
  • At a certain time, Goh is assisted by Ash by travelling together inside Cerise Laboratory's informatics system to locate and capture a Shadow Porygon that has infiltrated in the network, with supervision and guidance of Chloe, Hope and the Cerise staff on the real world.
    • Goh catches and registers a Porygon, a Porygon2 and a Porygon-Z in his Pokédex.
    • During a pinch situation, Professor Cerise plugs an Up-Grade into the network that allows Porygon to evolve to Porygon2. Shortly after, Hope plugs the Dubious Disc she had obtained in Hammerlocke's cybercafé as she had talked about in "Tropical Re-Encounters" to evolve Porygon2 to Porygon-Z.
  • Goh does a research task with Ash, Chloe and Hope at Lental region to photograph the ecosystem of a jungle where it is rumoured to have been reported the sightings of Mew. He meets Todd Snap for the first time, presented by Ash. The group doesn't find Mew but it manages to witness a quick encounter with Zeraora.
  • He offers emotional support to Hope who wants to participate in a music talent contest but her stage fright is preventing her to formalise her subscription. His relationship with Ash is the source of inspiration of Hope to compose the song "1 . 2 . 3" and Goh, Ash and Chloe watch the contest live and witness Hope's victory. A month later, he and the remaining group give her company to the airport for a farewell. Goh promised Hope to keep in touch and that they would meet up again in future, wishing her luck for her music studies at Unova region and quest for Meloetta. Hope wishes luck for Goh and shares her great belief that he's going to be accepted in Project Mew and find the Mythical Pokémon.
  • During the farewell party of JN136, Goh receives from Ash a half of the Destiny Knot he had given before as a promise that they'll meet up again in future and celebrate their achievements and their re-encounter. Moved, both Goh and Ash exchange an emotional hug.

Post-series

Goh travels on his own shortly after Project Mew's Faraway Island mission ends, willing to hone his Trainer skills by starting to challenge the Kanto Gym Leaders. He collects all the badges but skips the Pokémon League subscription in favour of doing individual research and catching Pokémon to continue to grow his Pokédex database. In the end of the regional tour, he returns to Kanto region afterwards to settle down for a while in Vermilion City and visit the Cerise Laboratory, where he's openly received by the Cerise Staff. However, he only manages to meet again with Chloe (who he manages to meet up with her with more regularity) since Ash was travelling in a different region by this point. Goh travels to the Orange Islands and Johto between his 11 and 12 years old to continue to collect Gym Badges, fill his Pokédex and participate in other Project Mew missions; returning to Vermilion after certain intervals of time. As he reaches adolescence, Goh subscribes to Celadon University's Biology Course in order to begin his training to later become a Pokémon Professor. However, he begins to deal with feelings of frustration for not being able to contact Ash regularly due to his public exile piled up with his own increased schedule with his own academic studies.

As of part of the text of "Another Step", after turning 15 years old, he returns to Cerise Laboratory to reassign back as a Research Fellow (working there on his free time) as his course requires an internship to be done in any laboratory located in the nation. Learning about Goh's availability, Ash confirms Goh that he's returning to Kanto region and wants to meet up with him. Upon finding Ash on Vermilion's airport, Goh has a very emotional reunion with him who he didn't see in flesh for five years. In Cerise Laboratory's garden, he shares a bedroom with Ash in an annex since the original division is unreachable due to a recent earthquake have done damage on most of the building. From this point on Goh participates in research tasks as part of the internship program. He catches up with all the news from Ash's side and rediscovers the happy and fuzzy sensations he has experienced before as a child but on a whole new and greater level to the point of Goh and Ash sharing their first deep kiss and maturing their romantic relationship. The next day after their reunion, they revisit back the meadow where they were first dropped by Lugia and share a moment of nostalgia of the childhood days they've experienced before. Ash promises Goh he won't leave again and wants to stick together with him from this time on.

Future

Goh obtains a bachelor in Pokémon Biology and Pokémon Professor title as soon as he turns 18 years old. He gets married at 19 few months after having a first very intimate experience with Ash and a having serious talk with Cilan, who coincidentally was passing by Kanto region at the time, and supported Goh's idea to propose Ash. Goh and Cilan travel secretly to Alola region to commission a Sunne ring, unaware that Ash had also travelled earlier to commission a Moone ring and sharing the same idea to propose to Goh as well. Some unpredicted events such as Goh's Rotom going missing from his phone (and damaging the device) after an unusual situation in Melemele Island, prolonged his absence in Kanto, worrying Ash who didn't see the paper note left by Goh in the bedroom (a gust of wind blew it under the bed). Upon returning to the laboratory he realizes there was a miscommunication and is surprised by Ash's wedding proposal after singing together 1.2.3.. He then proposes himself after while showing the Sunne ring, explaining the accidents he had experienced in Alola and how they interfered with the time he took to return. With the help of Brock and Cilan to organize the wedding, Goh and Ash get married at Melemele Beach, passing their honeymoon for three days in a luxurious villa of Alola. It's during the first honeymoon evening that Goh and Ash are surprised with Nebby's visit, who now travels with a Lunala partner, allowing Goh to meet Nebby (and a real Solgaleo) and a real Lunala for the first time and invite the couple over to travel to the Ultra Space to visit Naganadel (meeting it for the first time as well), and Nebby and Lunala's nest containing a Cosmoem (A Surprise Visit - Mature rated text). Goh collects never-seen-before data about Solgaleo and Lunala's nest, biologic characteristics, their reproductive system and mating dance. Additionally, he and Ash witness the birth of a Cosmog, a happening that moves them and sparks a wish on Ash to adopt a baby in future. Worried about his capabilities to become a good parent, Goh prefers to have time to think carefully before giving an answer to Ash's idea.

Goh and Ash move to medium-large sized apartment in Vermilion City after returning from their honeymoon, living a stable life with their successful jobs and have the chance to meet up with several long-time friends in the course of their adventures. At 21 years old, he obtains a master degree that certifies him with a specialization in Pokémon Genetics after defending a thesis on the subject after studies based on Mew and Deoxys, and he starts to work full time as a Pokémon Professor, researcher and scientific consultant in Cerise Laboratory. The highly favourable feedback from the Celadon teachers, Professor Cerise and Oak on the master thesis encourages Goh to develop his work even further by extending the studies and adapt them to public reading, having a strong moral support from Ash's side. At 24 years old, he publishes the book "Pokémon Genetics: From Mew to Deoxys" that gets critically acclaimed by the scientific community and receives several awards both from inside the nation and internationally. He also gains notoriety for his scientific contributes with Pokémon biology data by having one of the largest databases of the world including rare footage and info about Legendary and Mythical Pokémon, earning him invites to lectures in schools, universities, institutes and to interviews in television, radio and scientific podcasts.

Some months after the release of Goh's book, Ash and Goh find a baby girl in a critical condition near a river of Mauville City's outskirts, initially believing that she might have been dragged by the waters because of a violent rainstorm provoked by a Lugia the night before, and take her immediately to the nearest hospital. Worried sick about the development of the baby girl's health condition and moved by the appearance of blushing cheek marks (resembling Cosmog's marks), Goh and Ash visit Mauville's hospital daily for updates. Dr. Aida approaches them both at a point, intrigued by the frequent visits of the couple that had no link with the child and to report that since the Hoenn Police couldn't find clues about the origin of the baby and her biologic family that she would be transferred to an orphanage. Goh, already pondering since a few months if he would agree with the adoption idea and aware of Ash's long-time will to become a parent, openly asks if he and Ash could adopt the child. Dr. Aida accepts and eases the process as she's also the president of Mauville's orphanage. Two weeks later, Goh and Ash obtain the adoption authorization and return to the Mauville Hospital to pick up their now-daughter that Ash decides to name her as Destiny. Goh and Ash also consensually ask Chloe for her to become Destiny's godmother.

Despite of his busy researcher life, Goh promises Destiny to be a present dad at any point of her life, in which he accomplishes. Destiny's appearance in Goh's life brings the benefit of motivating him to take frequent breaks at work. He always saves spare time to raise and play with Destiny, willing strongly to witness her growth since the very beginning. He's particularly influential on the development of his daughter's intellectual and logic skills, her love for sweets, her analytical thinking, her bases in Pokémon Biology, her ability to briefly shift her eyebrows to the same shape as his, her calmness (late childhood mostly), her curiosity, her reading and tech abilities, his fear of ghosts and as well in exposing his child early to Pokémon to promote sensibility. He briefly sees his childhood through Destiny at a point when she's 6 years old when he rescues her from a flock of wild Golbat when she saved a wounded Abra from being eaten, reminding how he had also met a wild Abra with the exact same age as hers and learning later how her above-average knowledge about Pokémon biology allowed her to prevent a Golbat's Bite move. He's the original Trainer of the female Abra, having caught her due to Destiny not being in a legal age to catch one herself. Shortly before Destiny turning 10, Goh mentors her with Poké Ball throwing lessons and testing her knowledge with questions asked in previous Trainer License Exams to prepare herself for the real test. Upon obtaining the license, he gives Destiny a Rotom to install itself on her smartphone and the possibility to choose a Kanto starter, in which she ends up not doing so as she's decided for a long time to travel with her friend Abra as her Pokémon starter. As such, he hands over Abra's Luxury Ball, thus transferring ownership. When his daughter departures to a journey, he gives her a Catching Charm he had obtained during his late childhood solo travels to serve as a good luck talisman. He offers continuous advice to Destiny every time she contacts him or returns home after her journeys. When Destiny returns home after being defeated by Sabrina, Goh helps her Kadabra evolve to Alakazam thanks to a Trade Machine in Cerise Laboratory as one of the solutions to overcome the problem.

Later on his life, when his daughter turns an adult, he's surprised by Destiny's reveal of having rescued and befriended a wild Mew. Thanks to her he manages to register the Mew to his Pokédex and fulfil a childhood dream.
