Profile

folkloric beast - dysterel the milk-blooded. a gentle black dragon/drake with white blood, unfairly slain by a knight due to her fearsome appearance. she's a holy symbol, saint and martyr in Svanhildr's religion. the dewlan tree is said to have sprouted from her spilt blood - dewlan berries have white flesh/juice and are seen as sacred to dysterel. the berry is sweet and mellow and its juice is drank by acolytes on holy days. dysterel is most commonly depicted fatally wounded with white blood spilling from the wound, or dead with a tree bearing white fruit sprouting from her body. her exact appearance has been lost to time - some depictions have her with wings, or with no front legs and so on

because of her, milk-blooded is often used as a noun for those who are innocent and pure, and especially those who don't appear so, or try to hide it. those who leave offerings to her are often those who feel misunderstood, alone or forsaken - courthouses often contain murals or paintings depicting dysterel's demise as a reminder of the importance of a fair trial, lest the white blood be spilt.
