Vinar is an archivist, a human who was made immortal for the sake of impassively recording history. He was interested in the bloody annals of history from a young age and figured becoming an archivist would provide him with an education and access to all the weird facts he could possibly use to creep people out. He is focused on his own pursuits to the detriment of his social life, but he doesn't mind that at all. In fact, he sees himself as the sort of person who can entertain himself for hours. He likes making others feel uncomfortable with gory tales or gross anecdotes. Vinar enjoys his life as an archivist, but soon he's going to realize that might not be enough.

An archivist uniform consists of a warm overcoat suited for all types of weather, white pants that enable free movement, and a sleeveless shirt with a sun on it to represent the humans they were born as. Vinar's shirt has a decorative lining embroidered by his little brother with protective symbols. Although the default color scheme is black and gray, the uniform is customizable and not required. Vinar's is standard aside from the embroidery. He wears his hair in a medium-length ponytail and has bell earrings to annoy people with.

Born to a shepherding family on the island of Pasnik, Vinar never had much in the way of wealth or education. He got his fascination with history from his older cousins' tall tales and spent more time searching for books than helping with the sheep. His family considered him rather gloomy. When the archivists announced an open position, his parents signed him up in the hope that he could find something useful to do with himself. He did, and he loved every minute of his training. Archivists are immortal and have perfect memory for the century they are supposed to be a record of. Vinar's century is this one and he will spend the next 100 years recording everything he can see for propriety.

Archivists have a strict non-interference policy with what they consider to be unfolding history. Usually this isn't a problem; potential archivists go through a rigorous screening process that weeds out any influential figures in case of conflicts of interest. Vinar's case is unique, as his total nobody of a sister suddenly rose to prominence after he was inducted. For a while this was fine. Unlike his brother, Vinar never spent much time concerned with his family. But when Rast went missing after the assassination of her predecessor, Vinar threw centuries of propriety out the window and ditched the Archives. This had never happened before and the stunned archivists were unable to track him down.

Vinar went through extensive training before he earned immortality. Although he's nowhere near invincible, he's decent at unarmed combat and can hold his own long enough to get out of bad situations. He can't die, but he can feel pain and suffer permanent injuries.
