At first glance, Cyrel seems like your stereotypical guard: cold yet caring, too focused on protecting the Outlands’ population to be open to close relationships. Perhaps this is because of zir serious case of RBF - ze seems to have an almost constant scowl on zir face that seems to scare off most people. Plus, ze’s really good at zir job. Ze has one of the best records for “no civilian deaths” ever.
Of course, once you get to know Cyrel better, ze proves zerself to be the epitome of the “cold ham” trope. Zir voice may be a solid monotone, but you better believe that ze’s going to make every word dramatic as all get out. Sure, ze may seem stoic when you first meet zir, but when even something minor goes wrong the gold ham comes out immediately.
Cyrel is also a hopeless romantic. Seriously, the amount of romance books in zir library is a little bit ridiculous. And the poetry! Of course, as a guard ze often finds zirself in the position of being the knight in the fantasies. Which is totally fine with zir of course. Cyrel enjoys being a knight.
The best part about Cyrel, though, is zir passion for protecting people. Ze absolutely adores people and wants to make sure that no one gets hurt. Although being a guard means that ze does have to engage in more devastating violence occasionally, ze always does zir utmost to make sure no one gets hurt. It’s very important to Cyrel that they cause as little pain as possible.
Cyrel genuinely enjoys helping people. It fills zir heart up with joy whenever ze can help someone with a problem. This has endeared zir to the populace of the Outlands. Ze is willing to help whenever and wherever they can.
Design Notes
- Cyrel has an equine feral form that ze can shift into.
- From zir gemstone, Cyrel can summon a horn which allows zir to perform magic (specifics in ref).
- Cyrel has 6 wings - 3 sets of two. They’re an absolute pain to deal with.
- Despite literally being a guard, Cyrel doesn’t wear typical armor. After all, actual armor is too heavy for zir to fly with.
- Generally, Cyrel likes to wear tunics that look like they came straight out of ancient rome.
Trivia
- Cyrel would very much like a boyfriend, but hasn’t found one yet. Ze’d like to be someone’s knight in shining armor.
- The jewelry ze wears expands into nano-technology armor during combat, which isn’t often.
- Cyrel jokingly refers to zirself as as “Count Seraph” because of all the angel jokes ze’s had to deal with.
History
Cyrel was an Outlands’ native. Ze was born and raised in one of the outposts where people tend to gather. Zir parents were well liked among the people and were always ready to help others. That’s where Cyrel learned how to love and help people.
Tragedy struck, however. When Cyrel was 17, their parents were killed during a monster attack on the outpost. Said outpost didn’t have much in the way of a guard, which meant that there wasn’t enough defense. This left Cyrel an orphan with a determination to protect zir friends. And what better way to do that than form the outpost guard?
It took some training and a whole lot of work, but Cyrel managed to get the outpost guard up and running better than it was before. Cyrel became as well liked, if not more, than their parents. Ze loves the people around them, after all.
Of course, starting a guard did require some education in the City. You meet some interesting characters in the city - like Cyrel’s ex-boyfriend Halden. It was a short and messy relationship that proved to Cyrel what ze really wanted out of a relationship - and it wasn’t the kind of person that Halden is at all.
Now though, deaths are down, the outpost’s morale is up, and Cyrel is feeling very successful indeed. Hopefully, ze can find a boyfriend that loves them. One day!

Cyrel is quite fond of Elowyn, he’s such a wonderful person! However, Cyrel wishes they weren’t long distance right now. Ideally, ze’d be able to have Elowyn move in with zir but unfortunately he’s super busy. They haven’t even asked each other out yet!
Dain was one of the first people to join Cyrel in the new guard. Cyrel likes him, ze thinks he’s adorable and also very good at what he does. They work well together and are great friends. Dain is a fair bit younger than Cyrel, so Cyrel sees him almost like an apprentice of sorts. Ze’s always trying to make sure he’s doing okay.
Kiran just shows up occasionally to help out. The first few times, Cyrel was concerned - especially because of the amount of magic they were performing. However, once ze learned that they’re the new auracorn guardian, Cyrel decided to attempt to befriend them. Admittedly, this was after getting berated for kneeling to them. Since Cyrel’s been around for a few years longer than Kiran, ze’s been teaching them how to care for their wings. It’s been nice.
Cyrel really doesn’t like to think about Halden. It’s really painful for zir to remember the year or so ze spent with him. It’s just… such a weird time. Ze thought it was a lovely relationship, up until Halden showed his true colors. If Cyrel could never think about him again, it would be too soon.
