Profile

A young gifted footballer born to the famous Dutch sports journalists, Marten von Bergen and Yvonne der Valk; Lukas grew up heavily around sports, specifically F1 and football. With his mother often away in England to report on the English Premier League, his father would take him to various Dutch clubs as he reported on them. From then on, he decided he wanted to become a footballer - heavily inspired by his parents' works. Lukas decided to join his local youth academy - SC Heerenveen.

His agility and pace landed him to be trained in forward positions - predominantly striker and left wing. Through hours of training, alone and with his team; he was promoted to the senior team in 2016. Playing in the top flight of Dutch football was nerve wracking for the 16 year old, but soon enough he became the season's top scorer with 23 goals - beating his teammate, Reza Ghoochannejhad. In 2017, SC Heerenveen secured the loan of a lifetime, Martin Ødegaard joined for 18 months from Real Madrid. Von Bergen and Ødegaard got along and formed a close friendship. Assists and link ups led to goals. They became a widely celebrated duo in the club. Before he could ever imagine, Martin was recalled back to Real Madrid. The months of constant assists and game praise of one another was gone, and Lukas found himself stuck. He didn’t get along with many of his squadmates. However, von Bergen had no knowledge of a FC Barcelona scout watching him almost every game within the stands.

Offered an opportunity of a lifetime at the end of the 19/20 season, Lukas agreed to join Barcelona. Leaving his childhood club behind hurt him, turning his back on the place that raised him into the footballer he was now. It hurt the fans, too. On the way to the airport, Lukas was involved in an attack by SC Heerenveen fans - he was bruised and cut badly, and sent to the hospital once found on the floor, crying and stained in blood. He realised he was seen as a traitor to his boyhood club, and left for Barcelona as soon as he could.

Settling into Barcelona was hard. He wasn't a regular starter at first but once he found his feet, he was a goal scoring machine. Lukas became a star of the future. Everyone saw his talent and the fact he was only 20 and playing like this blew everyone away, eager to know how this man could shape his future and football as everyone knew it. His dream is to play for Chelsea FC one day, though no one is sure on the situation due to recurring rumours of a loan or even transfer away to the club.

Before a league match, Lukas was reunited with Sam Reilly, who he met at 16. After few nights out together, they repaired their friendship and confessed their long love for one another in Sam's home city of Edinburgh. They have been together since 21/12/21.
